Workdays/Hours: Friday - Sunday (5:00 AM to 5:00 PM)

Role Summary:

The Machine Operator at Element5 is responsible for operating production equipment to process lumber into high-quality mass timber products. Following established quality standards, operational procedures, and health and safety requirements, the Machine Operator plays a key role in preparing, aligning, and monitoring material throughout each stage of the production line. Success in this role involves maintaining consistent product quality, minimizing downtime, and supporting a safe, efficient, and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, following training and standard operating procedures to optimize plant performance.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable to support different areas within the department as operational needs change.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives by offering suggestions, solving problems, and volunteering for committees or focus groups.
  • Promptly report any safety, quality, maintenance, or production concerns to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct visual inspections and complete documentation of parts as required to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Follow all Element5 safety policies, manufacturing procedures, and workplace standards at all times.
  • Provide feedback to management on opportunities for cost reduction, work process improvements, scheduling, and other efficient strategies.
  • Maintain 5S standards by keeping the work area clean, organized, and compliant with company expectations.
  • Prepare and submit reports and documentation accurately and on time as required.
  • Participate in or lead special projects and assignments as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Professional Qualifications & Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of quality and compliance standards within a manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable using ERP systems and basic computer applications.
  • Skilled in maintaining 5S workplace organization and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Knowledge of wood processing techniques and related coursework is considered an asset.
  • Leads by example and demonstrates ethical behavior in all interactions.
  • Provides and receives feedback constructively and respectfully.
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and quality across all tasks.
  • Remains flexible and solution-focused while working effectively with others.

Experience & Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education considered an asset.
  • Additional certifications or training in wood processing or related fields are considered an asset.
  • 2–3+ years of experience operating machinery in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on involvement in continuous improvement initiatives, including problem-solving and process enhancements.
  • Practical knowledge of safety policies, workplace standards, and compliance requirements.

Working Conditions & Environment:

  • Production environment with exposure to noise and dust.
  • Frequent movement, including climbing stairs and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times while on the production floor.
