Alpha Healthcare is looking for a talented Medical Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our terrific team. The posting is for Burlington, ON and this is a part time position . Monday to Friday 8 AM to 2 PM with rotational Saturdays on a need to basis.
- Use your high level phlebotomy skills to collect blood samples from a variety of patients, including in their homes as needed
- Collect other specimens from patients
- Perform ECGs and Holter hook ups
- Register patient information into the Laboratory Information System
- Provide compassionate, convenient and caring service at all times
- Customer service for the best possible patient experiences
- Provide attention to detail and quality at all times
- Ensure all samples are properly labeled, identified, and meet acceptance criteria before testing
- Verify completeness and accuracy of OHIP documentation and associated paperwork
- Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and perform routine equipment maintenance under technologist supervision and department guidelines
- Ensure samples are processed in a timely manner as per department protocols
- Handle stat, verbal and special instructions as required in a timely manner
- Ensure confidential information is protected in a secure manner at all times
- Collect and deliver specimens to designated labs for testing
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- A graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent
- MLA certification
- Experience working in a medical laboratory, an asset
- Experience working in a community setting, an asset
- Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated skills in phlebotomy with ability to manage anxious patients during the sample collection process
- Proficiency in both written and verbal English to enables clear communication of instructions to patients and attention
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced level computer skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Current CPR and/or First Aid is an advantage
