About Violeté
Rooted in the warmth and simplicity of European tradition, Violeté is a new rustic European bistro inspired by the kitchens of Italy and Spain. Our menu celebrates forno cooking, house-made pastas, coastal ingredients, and the seasonal bounty of British Columbia, with a forno oven at the heart of the kitchen.
The space reflects the brand: approachable but elevated, timeless yet fresh, warm, comfortable, and immune to trends. Violeté is designed to be a neighborhood gathering place where food is shared, wine flows generously, and hospitality is at the forefront.
We are searching for a talented and passionate Head Chef to help bring this new concept to life.
Position Overview
The Head Chef will lead all kitchen operations and work closely with our Executive Chef to develop Violeté's lunch, brunch, and dinner menus. This is a unique opportunity to take creative ownership in shaping a new restaurant from the ground up from the menu and supplier network to the team culture and kitchen systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000–$70,000 per year (based on experience)
- Weekly Gratuities: $300–$400 per week (dependent on sales)
- Vacation: 10 paid vacation days (year 1)

Key ResponsibilitiesCulinary Leadership & Menu Development
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef to create compelling lunch, brunch, dinner, and seasonal menus inspired by Italian and Spanish traditions.
- Develop pizza dough, bread, and sourdough programs Forno oven experience is highly preferred.
- Uphold high standards of flavour, technique, consistency, and presentation.
Team Building & Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a strong, cohesive kitchen team.
- Foster a culture of respect, communication, professionalism, and continuous learning.
- Lead by example on the line during service.
Operations & Financial Management
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, scheduling, prep systems, and workflow.
- Manage food and labour costs within budget targets.
- Utilize Optimum Control or similar inventory software (experience is an asset).
- Develop and maintain ordering, storage, and waste-reduction systems.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation protocols.
- Maintain Food Safe standards and proper documentation at all times.
Vendor & Supplier Relationships
- Source and build relationships with local suppliers and producers.
- Prioritize seasonal and sustainable ingredients aligned with Violeté's vision.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Head Chef in a comparable full-service restaurant.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of team building.
- Deep passion and experience in Italian and Spanish cuisine.
- Strong knowledge of pizza production, dough, bread, and sourdough.
- Experience with wood-fired or forno ovens is a major asset.
- Food Safe certification required.
- Highly creative, organized, self-motivated, and excited to build a kitchen and a menu from scratch.
