The Role:

The Director is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of integrated communications and marketing strategies that inform the public, increase visitation, and drive revenue. Reporting to the Executive Director, Communications and Marketing, you will help bring our story to life across multiple channels and develop campaigns that advance ministry goals.

With two direct reports this role is at the heart of the action, leading a busy, high-performing team of six that works on everything from news releases and events to ad campaigns, digital marketing, and video production. To be successful you will combine strategy, creativity, and expertise to generate fresh ideas, create actionable plans, and deliver exceptional results.

While the communications unit works closely with every branch across the ministry, the marketing unit's work is focused on Saskatchewan's Provincial Parks - recreation, wilderness, and heritage parks which combined span more than 1 million acres. Sask Parks brand is rooted in its dual mandate, which is to provide recreational activities (camping, hiking, fishing, beaches, etc.) and to protect the environment within the park system.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications

  • Use proactive storytelling to highlight our commitment to health, wellness, safe communities, and environmental stewardship.
  • Prepare and/or review a variety of communications products, including news releases, speaking notes, key messages, media responses, and media events.
  • Provide communications advice to senior leadership and support the ministry's strategic goals through appropriate and consistent messaging.
  • Lead internal communications, which includes responsibility for the intranet, town halls, staff events, culture and engagement, and executive communications.
  • Ensure brand storytelling and visual identity are cohesive and in alignment with corporate requirements across physical and digital environments.
  • Support media relations to drive earned media that keeps stakeholders and the public informed about ministry services.

Integrated Marketing Campaigns

  • Create powerful communications and marketing strategies that build an emotional connection and create commercial impact.
  • Support the development and implementation of the annual strategy, aligning communications and marketing activities to drive awareness, engagement, and brand loyalty.
  • Oversee in-house media buys for both digital and print platforms. Guide Influencer partnerships to advance business goals.
  • Advise on brand and reputation management.

Social and Digital

  • Oversee content and creative across multiple digital channels. (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, eNewsletters, and a high traffic website ).
  • Responsible for ministry content on and the ministry Intranet.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and support a busy, high-performing team in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Support a collaborative, high performing culture, and strong team dynamics.
  • Assign work, help manage workloads, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Work closely with multiple branches and senior leadership to develop integrated campaigns that align with corporate objectives and measurable business goals.
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships, as well as budgets/resources for all marketing initiatives.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, manage hiring, work planning, and career and performance planning for a team of six.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a professional with 10+ years of progressive experience in communications or marketing in a government, corporate, or NGO setting.
  • Be a proven leader, having managed a team for at least two years.
  • Be an amazing writer and editor, able to craft clear, compelling messages and stories for a variety of products and platforms.
  • Be creative with a proven track record of developing and executing ideas, campaigns, and events.
  • Be deeply knowledgeable about communications and marketing theory and techniques and knows how to transform that into impressive strategies and tactics.
  • Be committed to learning, continual development, and career growth for themselves and their team.
  • Be a strategic thinker, who can anticipate challenges, and enjoys breaking down complex issues into simple terms, analyzing the options, and identifying workable solutions.
  • Be someone with a solid understanding of digital and social media platforms and how to use them to connect with an audience.
  • Be exceptionally organized and at their best in a busy environment, able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while supporting staff and meeting deadlines.
  • Be able to travel within the province, including overnight, and possesses a valid driver's license.
  • Have experience in destination marketing and communications or purpose driven brands.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in communications or marketing.
  • Have experience in government communications.
