The Opportunity
Reporting to the Sr Accounting Manager, the Bilingual Property Accountant provides financial analysis and reporting for a portfolio of Canadian retirement residences. By preparing financial packages, reconciling key accounts, supporting audits, and collaborating with operational leaders, you will directly contribute to sound financial decision-making and ongoing operational excellence.
What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate monthly financial reporting packages for assigned properties, in alignment with Chartwell's accounting standards and procedures.
- Analyze income statements and balance sheets; investigate variances to budget and ensure accuracy of account balances.
- Provide financial support to operational teams, offering insights and resolving issues collaboratively.
- Distribute financial reports and meet with operations and finance leaders to discuss results.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure compliance with regulatory filings (e.g., GST, PST, QST, WSIB).
- Support quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
- Assist with property integrations or dispositions, including financial transitions and reconciliations.
- Partner with the Senior VP, Real Estate Finance to support lender information requests.
- Collaborate with operations to develop property-level operating and capital budgets.
- Recommend and implement process improvements in financial reporting and analysis.
- Participate in ad-hoc projects as required.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: 3–5 years in accounting or finance roles, ideally within real estate or a related industry. Public company experience is an asset.
- Education: University degree in Business or Finance. CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent experience.
Technical skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Intermediate to advanced Excel required.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP.
Experience with accounting software and reporting tools.
Soft skills:
Detail-oriented and analytical.
- Collaborative and self-motivated.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory
