The Food Services Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food for clients, cafeteria services and internal events. This includes short-order grill items, batch cooking, and food prep. The Cook will use a computerized POS system to take and prepare orders, operate kitchen equipment, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. This role works closely with Food Services Coordinator and Assistant Food Services Coordinator to ensure consistent, high-quality meals & service.

Detailed List of Responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, the individual must demonstrate excellence in work quality, accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism.

  • Prepare and cook food according to Alberta Health Services standards and food safety regulations.
  • Take and prepare grill orders from the POS system; cook items such as breakfast and lunch meals, managing multiple orders simultaneously.
  • Ensure timely preparation and quality control of meals served using standardized recipes.
  • Assemble and serve meals from the steam table; serve food at counters or tables as needed.
  • Set up and maintain organized workstations and prep stations.
  • Assist with catering and internal events, including set up, services & clean up.
  • Support volunteers by providing assistance with prep and service tasks.
  • Communicate equipment repair or maintenance needs to the Food Services Coordinator.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation standards using daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current Food Safe Certification required.
  • Previous food service or restaurant experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stand for the entire shift. Must be able to bend, move, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work early mornings and the occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Positive, customer-service approach with effective communication skills.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work as part of a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
