Purpose:

This position is responsible for the management and reporting of financial information, including analyzing data, preparing financial reconciliations, tax returns, and accounting records.

Job Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations

  • Manage day-to-day banking and cash management activities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, loan accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Process month-end and year-end journal entries and closing activities.
  • Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts (wages, benefits, and statutory deductions).
  • Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Assets sub-ledger; track capital projects and update continuity schedules.
  • Prepare intercompany reconciliations, identify mismatches, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

Compliance & Tax

  • File monthly sales tax returns and analyze related accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required filings to Statistics Canada (StatCan) in accordance with reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and coordinating responses.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Streamline accounting functions and operations using financial systems and automation tools.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial processes align with business objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with banks, credit card service providers, and external auditors.

Other Duties

  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
  • Support finance-related projects and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., SAP).
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Curious open minded problem solver.
  • Skilled at both leading and executing detailed analysis.
  • Collaborative communicator with the ability to communicate outside of finance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word.
