THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced and driven Purchasing Lead to provide leadership and hands-on expertise across our procurement function. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Lead will oversee and participate in purchasing activities while acting as a key point of contact between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
This role is ideal for a proactive procurement professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and enjoys mentoring others, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring purchasing excellence across the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and support purchasing activities, ensuring materials, goods, and services are procured on time and within budget
- Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to team of Buyers, ensuring alignment with purchasing strategies and best practices
- Determine and maintain purchase order execution, delivery schedules, and expediting activities
- Coordinate closely with suppliers, maintaining clear communication on order status, lead times, and delivery performances
- Monitor, evaluate, and communicate supplier performance, driving corrective actions where necessary
- Collaborate with Managers to report, track, and resolve internal and external non-conformances
- Prepare, manage, and analyze purchasing reports and statistical data to support decision-making and continuous improvement
- Ensure discrepancies with purchase orders, invoices, or deliveries are resolved in a timely and effective manner
- Utilize strong negotiation skills to manage effective relationships with suppliers, Purchasing, and Production teams
- Review, support, and assist in the development and improvement of purchasing systems, processes, and controls
- Participating in Purchasing meetings, whiteboard meetings, and cross-functional project reviews as required
- Support the Purchasing Manager with workload planning, prioritization, and special initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Trade Certification or Supply Chain Management considered an asset
- 5+ years of purchasing experience, preferably within the Oil and Gas industry
- Demonstrated leadership or senior purchasing experience
- Strong understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain processes and ability to communicate concepts to others
- Highly motivated, adaptable, and able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a positive, team-focused attitude
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage data, reporting, and controls
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and best practices
- Applies understanding of operational strategies, processes, and cross-functional collaboration in daily work
