Volunteer Coordinator

Location: Main Building 
Shifts: Monday to Friday (occasional evenings and weekends as required) 

Overview

The Volunteer Coordinator supports The Gathering Place's mission by maintaining an organized and engaged Volunteer Program. The role oversees Volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, scheduling, and ongoing support across guest-facing and operational areas. Working with staff and community partners, the Coordinator ensures volunteer contributions align with organizational needs and values of dignity, inclusion, and respect.

What You'll Do

- Recruit, screen, onboard, and schedule Volunteers for programs, guest services, operations, and events.
- Develop and maintain Volunteer policies, procedures, and risk-management practices.
- Provide orientation and training to ensure Volunteers are prepared and aligned with expectations.
- Monitor attendance and performance; provide coaching, support, and recognition.
- Collaborate with departments to assess needs and ensure appropriate Volunteer placement.
- Maintain the Volunteer database and generate reports as required.
- Build strong Volunteer relationships, address concerns, and support recognition initiatives.
- Act as liaison between Volunteers and staff to support communication and shared goals.
- Represent The Gathering Place at V-related community engagement activities.
- Assist with administrative tasks and organizational planning as needed.
- Perform other related duties to meet operational requirements.

What You Bring
- Post-secondary education in community development, human services, volunteer management, or equivalent experience.

- Minimum 2 years coordinating or managing a volunteer base, preferably in non-profit, community, or healthcare settings.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with diverse groups.

- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.

- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Experience delivering presentations or training; public speaking is an asset.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Better Impact or similar systems is an asset.

- Professional, reliable, self-motivated, and committed to community service.

- Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check required.

Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
