Additional Note:

Must possess a current Alberta Operators license, Class 5, and provide a driver's abstract.

Must provide own vehicle and hand tools as per applicable collective agreement.

May be required to work overtime.

Position Description

purpose

The purpose of the Electrician is to plan, install and/or service electrical systems including lighting, power, and fire alarm. The Electrician provides effective service/repairs to these systems within the CBE to provide a safe and effective learning environment.

accountability

This position is accountable for:

  • Maintaining a productive balance between quality and quantity of work in an efficient and timely manner while demonstrating adaptability to changes in work priorities;
  • Effectively prioritizing work and solving associated problems in a collaborative manner;
  • Communicating effectively;
  • Demonstrating teamwork to contribute towards and maintain positive work relationships; and
  • Performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislative safety practices and procedures at all times to ensure their own safety and the safety of team members, staff and students.

major responsibilities

  • Studies building plans and specifications to identify the layout for the electrical and other materials, locates and marks panels and associated circuits, selects the type and size of conduit and wire required, assembles and installs fixtures and outlets and/or equipment. Installs said systems and tests to insure correct operation and voltage.
  • Identifies work priorities and schedules work in consultation with the Area Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Inspects equipment and determines necessary repairs and expedites procurement of electrical related parts and materials.
  • Utilizes drawings and/or specifications, site visit measurements, material quantity take-offs, known labor rates and other information available, to produce accurate estimates for work covered in this trade.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance functions on electrical systems and fire alarms.
  • Makes recommendations to the Foreman/Area Maintenance Supervisor for future Infrastructure Maintenance Program upgrades.
  • Completes work orders as assigned.
  • Assists in the design and inspection of new schools and modernizations as required.
  • Assists the Foreman/Area Maintenance Supervisor in determining stock levels and types of electrical and fire alarm related materials to be procured.
  • Adequately stocks vehicle when a service vehicle is assigned. Maintains cleanliness and basic service checks.
  • Instruct/assist Facility Operators in building operation with respect to electrical and fire alarm related matters and repairs.
  • Works collaboratively with all other trades in the repair/service of electrical and fire alarm systems.
  • May assume duties of Foreman as required
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.

qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must possess a Journeyman certificate in the electrical trade and a fire alarm certificate.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to keep accurate records
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers, building management systems and related maintenance management software is essential.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently, strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Skilled at maintaining and enhancing levels of service delivery and customer focus are required.
  • Willingness to upgrade and remain current with practices and trends.
  • Must be physically able to complete all demands and responsibilities of the position and work in inclement weather over a scheduled shift.
  • Six Months successful experience in a facility Operations Area
  • Personal Suitability.
