Organization Overview:
Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre (DCSC) is a charity organization committed to creating a region free from sexual violence. We do this by providing specialized intervention, counselling, and preventative education to individuals, families, and communities in North Central East Alberta.

Position Overview:
The Child & Youth Counsellor (CYC) works within a multidisciplinary team to provide prevention, assessment, referral, intervention, and supportive counselling services to children, youth, adults, families, and communities impacted by sexual violence. The CYC delivers mental wellness support to children aged 3–21 within the agency's catchment area and contributes to community capacity-building initiatives. This position involves travel to satellite offices, schools, and community spaces throughout the service region.

Key Responsibilities:


Provide individual and group counselling, including intake, assessment, case planning, and follow-up.

Prepare needs and risk assessments and assist clients with referrals to community resources.

Support clients' resilience and self-efficacy through trauma-informed approaches.

Participate in educational initiatives and community outreach programs.

Establish and maintain effective partnerships with other agencies and professionals.

Support the training and supervision of volunteers, students, and lay personnel.

Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers and practicum students as required.

Assist in agency events, fundraising activities, and interdepartmental support as needed.

Organize and maintain documentation, including client narratives, outcome measures, and data for case management, funding proposals, and public education initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or supervisors.

Qualifications:

Degree in Counselling, Social Work, or a related field with a focus on children and youth, with a minimum of two years of directly related counselling experience (equivalencies may be considered).

Registered, or eligible for registration, with the appropriate professional association (preferred).

Knowledge of community resources and familiarity with Indigenous culture and history within Canada.

Comprehensive knowledge of client-centered interventions, practice methods, and professional skills.

Working knowledge of computer software, including email, internet, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook), and electronic records management systems.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Understanding of women's issues, social justice advocacy, diversity, and anti-oppressive practice (considered an asset).

Current Criminal Records Check, Child Intervention Record Check, valid Alberta Driver's License, and access to a reliable vehicle.
