Music Librarian, John E. Robbins Library – Term

Brandon University is seeking a dedicated and collegial librarian for a full-time, term appointment as Music Librarian. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Music Librarian will provide professional support to the programs, students and faculty of Brandon University, in particular the School of Music and the Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serving as liaison librarian to the School of Music, including cultivation of collegial and collaborative professional relationships with Music faculty, students, and staff, as well as Conservatory and community members.
- Providing information literacy instruction and reference services within the Music specialty
- Performing collection management activities within the Music specialty
- Maintaining awareness of emerging music librarianship trends, technologies, and initiatives and evaluation of their usefulness to the local environment
- Developing and implementing specialized programming and enhancements within the Music Library
- Participation in library projects within the library ecosystem, including digitization and preservation initiatives
- Per Article of the BUFA Collective Agreement:
o Pursuing and engaging in professional development opportunities
o Engaging in research, scholarship, and creative activities
o Engaging in service, including participation in Library Council, and representing the Library on professional and scholarly association committees, task forces, working groups, and other entities at the local, regional, and national level as appropriate to the position and area of expertise.
- Performing other professional duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer through consultation with the Music Librarian.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an MLIS degree or equivalent and a Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent background in Music. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to these qualifications and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials. A second master's degree in Music is preferred.
Evidence of strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently and as a collegial part of the John E. Robbins Library team is required.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, effective, collaborative, and professional work relationships is required.
Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
Experience in an academic music library, experience in the provision of reference services, experience in digitization and preservation projects, and knowledge of and experience with multiple media types are preferred.
Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
