Summary

We're seeking a technically skilled designer or engineer to support our machinery design and compliance efforts. This short-term contract role (1–3 months, with potential for renewal or permanent hire) involves mechanical CAD work, machinery risk assessment, and updating CE documentation for existing and new equipment.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in mechanical design and an understanding of machinery safety and compliance requirements. Experience with electrical design or PLC programming is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design (CAD)

  • Create and revise 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings for custom and standard packaging machinery.
  • Support design updates, part modifications, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Ensure mechanical designs meet safety, manufacturability, and performance requirements.

Machinery Risk Assessment & Compliance

  • Perform and document machinery risk assessments per CSA Z432/ ISO 12100 and related standards.
  • Review and help update CE marking documentation, including technical files, Declarations of Conformity, and safety reports.
  • Work with the Chief Engineer to ensure safety-related updates and modifications are properly documented and traceable.

Technical Documentation & Support

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining engineering files and revision records, drawings, along with creation and maintenance of machine BOMs,.
  • Support continuous improvement of CE and safety documentation templates.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to align documentation with actual machine configurations.

(Optional / Future Scope)

  • Provide input or support on control system layouts, wiring diagrams, or component selection.
  • Contribute to PLC/HMI programming and integration projects (depending on skill set and contract extension).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electromechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in machinery or industrial equipment design.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Familiarity with CE marking requirements, CSA Z432, ISO 12100, and machinery risk assessment processes.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and coordinate effectively with the engineering team.
  • Experience with electrical design, PLC programming, or automation integration. (Optional)
  • Knowledge of ISO 13849, functional safety, or control system safety documentation. (Optional)
  • Hands-on experience assembling or testing automated machinery. (Optional)
