MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. The Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) is seeking compassionate, energetic, and motivated individuals to fill two (2) full-time, permanent Peer Support/Night Attendant positions at the Mistahey Musqua Treatment Centre (MMTC). Under the direction of the MMTC Manager, the Peer Support/Night Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of in-patient clients during night shifts, patrolling the facility, and providing basic client support.
The philosophy of the MMTC is to promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle and to enhance the well-being of our First Nation communities through holistic (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) counselling services in prevention, treatment, and aftercare.
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Conduct regular checks on clients to ensure their safety and comfort.
· Assist clients with basic needs and provide support as required.
· Maintain security by patrolling the facility and grounds regularly.
· Document any significant activities or incidents in simple reports.
· Provide assistance during emergencies and contact designated staff for support.
· Ensure adherence to the Treatment Centre's guidelines and policies.
· Support smooth shift transitions by communicating relevant information.
· Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain clean and safe common areas.
· Basic data entry in the AMIS program
· Carry out other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Secondary School Grade 12
- Security Guard training is an asset
- Basic Literacy Skills
Preferred:
- Peer Support Certificate – Free online course available – willing to obtain within 6-months of employment
- Certificate or diploma in Wellness & Addictions, or health related studies
- ICBOC Designation – willing to obtain within 6 months of employment
- CPR & First Aid certified or willingness to obtain
Other:
- Dependable and observant, with the ability to remain alert throughout the shift
- Knowledge of and willingness to actively support traditional healing practices;
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values with the ability to speak Cree or Dene would be a considerable asset.
- Must lead a life of sobriety and one free of addictions.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and eligible to operate a fleet vehicle.
- Lived experience of poverty, and/or recovery from a mental health and/or addiction illness.
- Willingness to share personal experience in a supportive way, with understanding of healthy boundaries.
- Knowledge of social issues such as poverty, unemployment, stigma, medications, and the isolation experienced by individuals with serious addiction and/or mental health issues and their families.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the Centre.
- Physically able to respond to behavioral and clinical emergencies anywhere in the building.
