Position Summary:
The Behavioral Support Worker plays a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals with behavioural challenges in Hogan Way, Warman, SK. This position involves working closely with individuals, families, and other professionals to promote positive behaviour, improve personal skills, and enhance the overall quality of life for individuals with behavioural needs. The Behavioral Support Worker will utilize a person-centred approach, implementing strategies and interventions to help individuals achieve their goals and maximize their independence.
Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments:
Assess the needs and abilities of individuals with behavioural challenges.
Identify strengths, preferences, and areas requiring support.
Develop individualized support plans based on the assessment.
Implement behavior support plans:
Develop and implement behaviour support plans in collaboration with individuals, families, and other stakeholders.
Utilize evidence-based strategies and techniques to address challenging behaviours.
Provide guidance and support to individuals and their support networks in implementing behaviour support plans effectively.
Provide direct support:
Assist and teach individuals skills related to daily living, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
Promote the development of adaptive behaviours and coping strategies.
Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages independence and self-advocacy.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams:
Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members, including psychologists, therapists, social workers, and educators.
Attend meetings and contribute insights to develop comprehensive support plans.
Provide regular updates on progress and challenges.
Document and monitor progress:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interventions, observations, and progress reports.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support strategies and modify plans as needed.
Collect data to measure outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
Crisis intervention:
Implement crisis intervention techniques when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals.
Follow established protocols and procedures to manage challenging behaviours effectively.
Advocacy and community involvement:
Advocate for individuals' rights, needs, and interests.
Facilitate community integration and participation.
Connect individuals and their families to appropriate resources and services.
Qualifications and Skills:
At least one (1) year of recent experience working in programs with youth who are deemed to be high-risk with complex care needs, and their families/caregivers.
Demonstrated ability to organize and lead groups designed to provide mutual support and teach participants personal, interpersonal, and life skills.
Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
Familiarity with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, and related challenges.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in various environments.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector check (Valid within 6 months)
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset
- Current CPR & First Aid
- Valid driver's licence
- Clear and current driver's abstract
