Within the Court and Justice Services (CJS) Division, the Resolution Support Centre is the "come in" of the service delivery model, focusing on providing consistent information to Albertans in person, by telephone, or by email and will result in improved client access to the legal information & resources best suited to their situation, improved client experience, and an emphasis on front-end resolution of the legal issues Albertans experience. It is expected that this service delivery model will result in a decrease in the number of Albertans using the courts as a method of conflict resolution.

*Role Responsibilities*
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to apply your understanding of court procedures and the law to help Albertans increase their access to the legal system? Come join our Resolution Support Centre Team and provide exceptional service to Albertans while continuing to expand your knowledge of the law

Under the direction of the Team Lead, Information Services, you will be a "front line" representative of Alberta Justice. You will provide reliable and current information to Albertans, including self-represented litigants who do not have the assistance of a lawyer.

Your Role Will Involve, But Is Not Limited To

  • Providing information and documentation about CJS programs and services to internal and external stakeholders via phone, in-person, and email.
  • Providing information and referrals regarding alternatives to court action, including Resolution Services Programs (such as Assessment Services and Dispute Resolution Services), other GOA departments, NGOs, and local resources.
  • Assisting clients in determining sources and location of general and legal information, such as court processes, program policies, and legislation.
  • Reviewing and filing of court documents in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court, federal and provincial statutes, policy directives and procedure manuals.
  • Researching, developing, and maintaining program and service resource materials to facilitate consistent service delivery and training of staff members.

Qualifications
Required:
A high school diploma and four (4) years of related experience in the legal field or environment are required. A combination of legal experience and experience supporting or assisting various clients may also be considered.

Examples Of Related Experience That Will Be Considered Include

  • Legal Assistants and Paralegals.
  • Court or Judicial Clerks and Assistants.
  • Experience with various areas of law, court processes, and procedures in a judicial or legal field or environment (e.g., law firm, correctional services, etc.)

Equivalencies Will Be Considered On The Basis Of

  • One year of directly related experience for one year of education, or
  • One year of directly related education for one year of experience.

Assets
Preference Will Be Given To Candidates With The Following

  • Related post-secondary education in the legal field.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court.
  • Knowledge of the different areas of law and all levels of court processes and procedures (e.g. civil, family, criminal, traffic, landlord, etc.).
  • Experience demonstrating conflict resolution.
  • Experience supporting or assisting vulnerable populations, demonstrating crisis intervention/management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Fluent written and oral communication skills in French.

Position Information*

  • Positions Available: One permanent full-time position
  • Location: John E. Brownlee Building, Edmonton
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours a day and 36.25 hours a week
  • This position involves heavy lifting of boxes up to 25 lbs., as well as long periods of standing or sitting.
