The Financial and Administrative Shared Services Division in Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction is responsible for the province-wide administration of the Access to Information (ATI) Act. In addition, the division delivers the ATI program for Government of Alberta departments, and some of their agencies, boards, and commissions.

Reporting to the Access to Information (ATI) Coordinator, you will contribute to sector compliance with the legislated and policy requirements of the Access to Information (ATI) Act. As a Access to Information Advisor, you will respond to and/or provide analysis, advice, and recommendations on access to information requests and consultations in accordance with the ATI Act and other relevant legislation.

Other key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Processes access to information requests (personal and general), responds to consultations from all levels of governments subject to access and privacy legislation, under the ATI Act.
  • Assists the ATI Coordinator in the liaison and negotiation with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) in response to reviews, investigations, and inquiries.
  • Develops and supports the delivery of training sessions; other resources and communication materials to promote awareness and understanding of the ATI Act.
  • Supports the FOIP Coordinator and Senior Advisors with preparation of responses to OIPC Reviews, Inquiries, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree (4 year program) in areas including Business, Public Administration, Law or a similiar area of specialization.
  • PLUS two years of related experience.

The following equivalencies may be considered:

  • Two Year diploma with a minimum four years of related experience.
  • Certificate with a minimum of five years of related experience.
  • No formal education with 6 years of related experience.

The following will be considered assets:

  • Experience in an access/or information privacy specific role.
  • Experience with and/or applying the Access to Information (ATI) Act (previously the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.
  • Experience interpreting and/or applying policy.
  • Experience in applying legislation, such as access and privacy.
  • Experience in facilitating training and/or participation in work groups and/or committees.

The competition will be used to one (1) permanent Access to Information Advisor role.

The successful candidate will be required to work in Edmonton, scheduled Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day for a total of 36.25 hours per week.

A remote work arrangement is not offered.
