Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking an Academic Advisor for a full-time continuing opportunity with the School of Business.

You will work with students to help them understand the various pathways forward to a degree, diploma or certificate; assist and support students as they make choices which impact their future; discuss career plans and support students experiencing academic difficulty.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide students with information and resources to promote academic progress;
  • Provide educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students;
  • Monitor student progress and discuss concerns, including intervention during the current semester, while ensuring student retention through consistent follow-ups;
  • Stay informed of current and changing rules, regulations and program requirements;
  • Maintain student files and records, while ensuring courses entered into Peoplesoft are accurate according to the student's educational plan.
  • Interpret and apply MacEwan academic policies and procedures;
  • Assist in recruitment of potential/prospective students by advising them of general academic requirements; describe courses; disseminate information regarding registration procedures; and
  • Participate in student orientation sessions. Assist students with admission and registration and provide guidance in course selection in keeping with the student's interests, values and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a post-secondary institution working with students.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
