Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Part Time as Needed (PTAN) Telecommunications Field Inspector / FTTx to work on multiple civil installation projects in Clearwater County, Alberta. As a Telecommunications Field Inspector you'll have the opportunity to work in a rural setting overseeing direct buried installations of micro-ducts, cabling and splicing and testing of the network.

This role sits within the larger Global Mobility Business Area. Role accountabilities:

Collaborate with project management and contractors to develop work schedules, project plans, and construction specifications.

Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with project requirements, established construction standards, and safety protocols.

Act as a single point of contact for customers or 3rd party complaints.

Manage and facilitate in-field approvals of contractor change requests with Design Lead and Project Manager.

Monitor and ensure adherence to all Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.

Monitor and document the progress and quality of construction activities, identifying any deviations from plans or potential issues.

Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to ensure accurate implementation and adherence to specifications.

Oversee the installation of cables, including routing, splicing, labeling and termination, adhering to established standards.

Inspect and approve excavation sites, ensuring proper techniques and precautions are followed to minimize environmental impact and infrastructure damage.

Monitor the placement of hand-holes and equipment cabinets, making field adjustments to better suit specific locations and conditions. Verifying their structural integrity and adherence to design specifications. Any changes need to be reported to the design team and incorporate to the As Built drawings.

Verify grounding systems and ensure electrical safety measures are implemented in accordance with regulations.

Conduct thorough inspections of restoration activities to ensure that affected areas are reinstated to their original condition or as specified in the project plan.

Maintain accurate records, including daily progress reports, inspection logs, and photographic documentation.

Communicate effectively with various utility owner representatives, contractors, project managers, and other key stakeholders to address construction-related concerns, provide guidance, and resolve any issues that may arise.

Participate in project meetings, providing technical expertise and updates on construction progress.

Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, combined with strong problem-solving abilities to evaluate alternatives and implement solutions, and effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Communication Technician Certification or equivalent; relevant certifications or technical training in telecommunications, outside plant construction (OSP), or related fields is preferred.
  • Proven experience in OSP (Outside Plant) construction, in the telecommunications industry.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, including excavation, horizontal directional drilling, cable installation / jetting, grounding, and restoration techniques. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing telecommunications infrastructure deployment.
  • Ability to read and interpret telecommunication construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to adapt to relevant software and tools for documenting inspections, progress tracking, and communication.
  • Physical ability to perform field inspections, including walking, climbing, and working in various outdoor weather conditions. 
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different work sites as required. 
  • Availability to work away from home for extended periods.

The salary range for this position is $66,000-$99, The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
