We currently offer professional programs in three areas: Social Responsibility & Sustainability, Interfaith Dialogue, Catholic Leadership, and Ontario certified teacher qualifications as well as a number of general interest courses in areas relevant to the academic and intellectual traditions of our institution, including Celtic studies, book arts and printmaking, poetry and creative expression, faith formation, and spirituality and sociology, and language and arts.
**Position Overview**
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate instructor to teach the SMCE3008 W25 Eco Spiritualities in our Interfaith Dialogue Diploma program during the Winter 2025 semester. This course endows a micro credential for learners who successfully complete the requirements.
**Course Description**
This course explores eco-spiritualities within and across religious traditions, with attention to theological, ethical, and systemic dimensions of ecological realities around the world. Students will engage with interfaith texts and traditions to examine how spirituality shapes environmental worldviews and inspires action in the face of climate change and ecological degradation.
**Learning Outcomes**
- Examine theological foundations for eco-spirituality across traditions
- Analyze structural causes of ecological harm from a faith-based lens
- Evaluate how eco-theologies intersect with social justice
- Interpret scriptural texts through ecological lenses
- Explore the role of religious institutions in climate advocacy
- Engage in comparative religious analysis of nature and creation
- Articulate a faith-informed response to ecological challenges
**Teaching Methods**
- Comparative text analysis
- Seminar-style discussions
- Lectures with multimedia content
- Assessment tasks designed for adult continuing education learners, intended to demonstrate mastery of course concepts
The course will be scheduled on a weekday evening from 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. online for six consecutive weeks in the Winter term (September to December 2025). Efforts will be made to accommodate the instructor’s own schedule.
**Qualifications**
- A graduate degree in religious studies, theology, interfaith studies, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Experience teaching courses related to religious diversity, interfaith dialogue, or multiculturalism.
- Experience with topics of ecological theologies, sustainability, and/or environmental justice
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and promoting social justice.
- Successful experience teaching online.
**Brief Description of Duties**
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures and interactive sessions that explore topics in Eco Spiritualities which align with the course description provided in this posting.

- and Course-Level Learning Objectives set by the Division of Continuing Education
- Incorporate opportunities to strengthen skills in dialogue and communication through assignments, activities and lecture content
- Facilitate discussions and activities that encourage critical reflection and engagement.
- Provide guidance and support to students as they cultivate greater personal openness to, and skills for, interreligious engagement.
- Assess student learning through a final reflection or assignment.
