Instructors teach outdoor skills and eco-fun lessons, lead overnight hikes, orchestrate campfires, and so much more Given that all staff stay onsite at the Evans Lake Forest Education Center while programs are in session, the action never stops, and applicants should enjoy working in a dynamic work environment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must, as well as a yearning for an endless summer General • Deliver outdoor and environmental education courses and integrate forest themes into all camp programming. • Lead hikes and out trips (must be able to hike up to 15kms carrying a pack of up to 50lbs). • Demonstrate positive leadership/mentorship for students and campers aged 8-16, other staff, and visitors. • Accept the responsibilities associated with being either an Evans Lake first aid attendant or lifeguard. • Summer Camp instructors support and mentor cabin leaders and volunteers, and may coordinate 1 of 5 areas (First Aid, Eco Fun, Waterfront, Climbing & Low Ropes, & Outtrips) • Work transport bus stops from Metro Vancouver/Squamish as needed. • Drive the truck and trailer as part of weekly transport in and out of camp and other driving as needed. • Work rental groups, family weekends and weddings as assigned. • Other duties as assigned (e.g. driving campers, staff, and/or supplies, cleaning program areas). Term • Instructor training: June 13th and 14th, 2026. • Staff Training: June 20th to 24th, 2026. • Summer camp season: June 26th through to August 28th 2026. • Preference may be given to candidates who can work rental groups starting in late March/early April and extending through late October. Safety • Comply with Evans Lake’s policies and procedures. • Take ownership of the safety of clients and staff members. Reporting and Evaluation • Instructors report to the Program Manager and receive mentoring and coaching from senior staff. • The Program Manager or a Senior Instructor will initiate a goal-setting and evaluation process. • Continuous feedback and communication among staff members are encouraged. Required Certifications & Experience • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years old. • First Aid Certificate (at minimum, an 8-hour basic certificate that includes CPR.) • NL lifeguard certificate (or international equivalent), or 35+ hour First Aid certificate (e.g. OFA level II.) • Preference may be given to candidates who have a BC Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license. • Additional certifications and licenses are assets, including a Class 4 driver’s license and certifications in paddling, rock climbing, and/or outdoor recreation and leadership. • Educational backgrounds with special relevance, including forestry, outdoor recreation, and education, are considered an asset. • Criminal reference check with vulnerable sectors search.
