As a Green Event Leader you will work as part of our diverse, passionate and tight knit team to **support zero waste communities **at events. We work to minimize our environmental impact through an educational approach. This job will provide great opportunities to gain work experience in sustainability, educate people about waste reduction, and have a positive impact on our environment and communities.

Work varies week to week depending on our event schedule, so flexibility is key.

**Duties**:

- Act as main point of contact for event organizers
- Coordinate with the production team pre-event to gain a solid understanding of festival programming and the waste management plan including:

- Equipment needed
- Staff requirements, roles and responsibilities
- Customer needs and goals
- Site layout and key site locations
- Take full responsibility for an event site or designated area during large events from set up to take down, over the course of several days, including:

- Orient and coordinate up to 20 staff and volunteers at a time
- Call and facilitate staff meetings when needed
- Set up home base location tents, storage, tables and sorting area
- Sign staff and volunteers in and out
- Appropriately fill out time-sheets, reports and other event records daily depending on event needs
- Complete pre-work safety meetings on-site with event team and take part in hazard assessment and mitigation procedures
- Supervise and assign crew members to tasks and areas of responsibility
- Coordinate the set up and take down of recycling stations and signage throughout event site
- Serve as main contact on radio and to other departments and maintaining a professional demeanour at all times
- Serve as primary contact and remain in communication with the event manager
- Ability to decide appropriate times to make decisions independently and appropriate time to consult the event manager for advice
- Coordinate clean-up efforts and maintain a high level of site cleanliness at all times
- Educate event patrons about waste diversion, waste reduction and the move towards zero waste
- Report to the production team post-event

**Requirements & Expectations**:Enthusiastic team player**
- Experience in other leadership positions
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work long hours under demanding conditions
- Class 5 drivers license and a clean driving record
- Passion for making the world and local communities better places to live

**Ability to work under the following conditions**:

- Work outdoors
- Working within large crowds of people
- Working in an environment with a high noise volume
- Stand or walk for up to 12 hours
- Work weekend and evening shifts
- Lift up to 24 kg
- Work in/around downtown Calgary, and other events in Alberta and B.C.
- Professionalism, honesty, integrity and a constructive outlook

**Not Required but considered an asset**:

- Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Safety and First Aid training
- Experience driving a 5-ton cube van and operating a truck with power liftgate
- Experience working with large events and festival
- Your own smartphone
