Women Building Futures is hiring for the role of Bookkeeper. This is a full time, permanent role with the ability to work from home. Reporting to Financial Controller, the Bookkeeper is responsible for a wide range of financial record keeping tasks, with a primary focus on accounting and payroll functions. This role ensures accuracy and integrity of data and supports the financial health of the organization.
Do you have experience as a Finance/Payroll assistant (preferably within not-for-profit or charitable sector)? Are you familiar with all aspects of full-cycle accounting and have a passion for numbers and social causes?
**Key Responsibilities**
- **_Full-cycle Accounting Functions_**: Manage all aspects of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), and process bi-weekly payroll.
- **_Vendor Payments and Bank Deposits:_** Prepare vendor check runs and make timely bank deposits.
- **_Journal Entries and Accruals:_** Prepare quarter-end and year-end journal entries, including accruals.
- **_Software Maintenance:_** Maintain and update _SAGE 50_ accounting and _CERIDIAN_ payroll software to ensure accurate financial records.
- **_Audit Preparation:_** Prepare and maintain working papers and schedules for internal and external audits.
- **_Cash Management:_** Oversee cash management and forecasting to ensure sufficient liquidity.
- **_Financial Reporting:_** Prepare quarterly financial reports and analyze results and trends to provide operational and financial insights.
- **_Reconciliations:_** Reconcile and remit source deductions, and prepare account and bank reconciliations, including credit cards.
- **_Tax Forms:_** Issue required tax forms to students, donors, and employees.
- **_Policy Development:_** Assist with policy development and implementation of financial policies.
- **_Other Duties:_** Perform other duties as assigned to support the finance team.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments efficiently
- Strong problem-solving skills, with good planning and organizational abilities
**Education & Experience**
- Minimum of 3 years of full-cycle accounting and payroll experience
- Certificate in Bookkeeping or Accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Sage 50 and Ceridian is an asset
- Experience preparing for and supporting annual audits
- Experience in the not-for-profit or charitable sector is an asset
- Experience with grant or project accounting is an asset
