Reporting to the Manager of Radiation Medicine, the Clinical Educator leads and co-ordinates adherence to best practice guidelines, evaluation, research and the clinical education activities of radiation therapists and radiation therapy students within the Radiation Medicine Treatment Program at the Walker Family Cancer Centre (WFCC).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Co-ordinate the Radiation Treatment clinical education activities, including staff orientation in accordance with the needs of patients, staff and the goals/objectives of the Radiation Medicine Program.
- Plan, implement and evaluate educational strategies that support and promote the standards of radiation therapy practice and the philosophy of the WFCC Radiation Medicine Program.
- Consult with Radiation Therapists on a regular basis to assess their current and future learning needs
- Develop/utilize learning materials to aid radiation therapists in the acquisition of new skills and knowledge
- Prepare and present educational initiatives for WFCC Radiation Therapy staff members
- Liaise with internal/external health care professionals to ensure high-quality Radiation Oncology education and staff development
- Develop and review patient education materials with WFCC patient education team and Disease Site Teams to ensure accuracy of radiation therapy information
- Facilitate tours through WFCC Radiation Therapy department
- Promote radiation therapy and educate the community in the roles and responsibilities of radiation therapists
- Involvement in ongoing personal professional development maintaining personal clinical competence
- Other related duties as assigned
- Attend and participate in academic intuition orientation events, program meetings and development
- Work with academic institution to on-board new students
- Develop a clinical rotation for student placement ensuring opportunities to meet clinical objectives
- Participate in or seek partners to promote student research projects
- Complete student weekly/monthly/term evaluations and meetings and liaise with academic institution
- Work with students in a variety of clinical settings to ensure students meet learning objectives
- Ensures students and members of WFCC Radiation Medicine Team understand student clinical objectives
- Liaises with clinical teams to encourage feedback and communication for the student regarding their clinical performance
- Informs staff and students of policies and procedures related to students' training and ensures students comply with WFCC institution and academic institution policies and procedures
- Counsels students on problems related to or arising from the education program and clinical placement and progression.
- Acts as a facilitator and a resource for students
- Prepare students for CMRiTO licencing exam
- Maintain student records
- Acts as a role model for students
- Other related duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Baccalaureate Degree in Radiation Therapy
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience in radiation therapy at the WFCC preferred with experience in the following clinical areas preferred (i.e. Treatment units, CT Sim, simulator/ mould room, treatment planning) with applicants with similar external experience considered.
- Master's Degree, Advanced Certification in Radiation Therapy and/or teaching certificate from an accredited program is an asset
- Demonstrated current knowledge of disease processes, treatment techniques, electronic medical record, record and verify systems, ancillary software used in CT Sim and treatment planning within the radiation medicine program
- Current BCLS level C CPR
- Current knowledge of WFCC policies and procedures and DST protocols
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills: problem solving, decision-making, sound judgment
- Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset
- Experience in coaching and teaching skills an asset
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
- Demonstrates the ability to problem solve and effectively communicate complex patient care matters
- Demonstrates Niagara Health's CORE values \
- Knowledge of computer systems and general office software
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
- Consistent and regular attendance required
