The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Project Manager, OHS Biospecimens to join the **Ontario Health Study (OHS)** program.
This position is temporary, full-time for one-year with the possibility of renewal.
The Ontario Health Study (OHS) is a longitudinal cohort study that serves as a platform for investigating a variety of environmental, lifestyle, molecular, clinical and genetic factors associated with cancer and chronic diseases. Since the OHS began in 2009, it has collected questionnaire data, physical measures and biological samples from Ontario residents aged 18 years of age and older. The Study continues to expand its dataset through new linkages, sample collection and analyses, and administration of online questionnaires. OHS data and samples are available to the research community for approved, health-related studies.
This position will support OHS operations to collect additional biospecimens from a subset of OHS participants. This includes developing project plans that accomplish the stated objectives, articulating clear, measurable and attainable milestones, building project requirements, performing gap analyses for process revisions, and coordinating communications with internal and external stakeholders.
Fully vaccinated is defined as having received all of the required doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine and having received the final dose at least 14 days before your employment start date.

**The responsibilities include**:
Project Management:
- Develop project plans, including timelines, required resources and dependencies, for the entire life cycle of biospecimen collection, including collecting, transporting and processing blood samples.
- Contribute to formulating the OHS’s milestones and deliverables for biospecimen collection.
- Support the development and evaluation of Request for Proposals to identify suitable vendors for key services.
- Work with OICR and vendors to develop appropriate agreements.
- Distill meetings into actionable items and follow-through with internal and external stakeholders to achieve deliverables.
- Develop and update project management documents (e.g., work breakdown structure, Gantt charts).
- Analyze risks and create and execute risk mitigation plans where required, revise as appropriate and elevate status/priority to OHS leadership.
- Support internal and external reporting.
- Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures and support staff training, as needed.
- Monitor progress and report on the OHS’s operational activities, including the project budget.
- Act as the primary point of contact for third party service providers.
- Work with the OHS IT team to develop requirements to update the Laboratory Information Management System.
Process Improvement:
- Manage the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives that reflect best practice or established standards.
- Monitor quality improvement outcomes on a regular basis and develop action plans to remediate identified issues.
- Mentor staff to ensure that continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into day-to-day operational activities.
- Support organizational strategies and initiatives.
Resource Management:
- Promote teamwork amongst OHS staff and external stakeholders, and support an environment of productivity and engagement.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers on issues and potential solutions.
- Utilize problem solving techniques, creativity and facilitation skills to recommend effective, workable solutions to complex problems affecting project progress or delivery.
Communication:
- Support OHS communications to develop participant-facing information.
- Develop and present material for review and informational purposes using strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to express technical and operational concepts effectively to OHS leadership and staff
- Determine requirements of project stakeholders and develop a communication plan to ensure all are appropriately informed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from different disciplines and varying degrees of biospecimen expertise.
- Ensure team members have all necessary information regarding decisions made and interpret the impact of those decisions on projects.
Self-Management:
- Prioritize work objectives appropriately and seek input from OHS leadership if required.
- Work in a self-directed manner, drawing on available resources and knowledge to inform decision-making.
