The Payroll Accounting Coordinator will be a key contributor to the accounting department with the objective of delivering a high level of accuracy, integrity, and timeliness reporting with a focus on supporting the payroll process. The individual will work collaboratively with both the accounting team and other departments to achieve corporate objectives, deadlines and enforce corporate policies.

**General Accountability**:
Reporting directly to the Sr. Accounting Analyst, the Payroll/Accounting Coordinator role will be a key contributor to the accounting department with the objective of delivering a high level of accuracy, integrity, and timeliness reporting with a focus on supporting the payroll process. The individual will work collaboratively with both the accounting team and other departments to achieve corporate objectives, deadlines and enforce corporate policies.
**Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:
- Maintains payroll information including all earning, deductions and related coding within the payroll module for both Canada and the US by coordinating with HR to validate and enter payroll records while keeping employee confidence, and protecting payroll operations intactness and information confidential
- Updates tax rate to ensure the system is up to date
- Oversees the bi-weekly payroll process for Canada and US with the support of the outsourced payroll processing provider
- Work as cross-functional team member with supervisors and managers on ensuring timely collection of approved timesheet records
- Validates, and audits the payroll records in terms of changes in compensation, adjustments, taxes, deductions, benefit and retirement contribution setup, status change, record of employments including calculating and validating the final vacation amounts taken and owed, as well as any recovery efforts, etc.
- Administers payroll tax submission for each payroll and prepares monthly/annual payroll reports including WSIB, EHT, 401K, etc.
- Prepares all payroll and related journal entries (such as vacation accrual) after each payroll for financial reporting
- Resolves payroll discrepancies, assists with payroll related inquiries from employees, and tax issues by coordinating, collecting, analyzing information, and setting up cases with payroll provider if needed
- Assists with accounting tasks such as month end closing and year-end audit
- All other duties as assigned
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- Strong problem solving, excellent analytical abilities, and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Possess good organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills
- Knowledge of payroll systems and computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and payroll related employment guidelines
**Educational/Experience Requirements**:
- Diploma or Degree in Finance/Payroll or equivalent required
