Managing a lab is important. Managing core research platforms is critical. At McMaster, we’ve built the Centre for Advanced Light Microscopy (CALM), a state-of-the-art microscopy facility enabling cutting-edge research across disciplines. We are now searching for the leaders in the field to join our team and help continue the development of CALM into the premier light microscopy centre in Canada and The World.

Why?

Because the best research and the best academic programs need the best expertise and the best infrastructure. Not just the status quo.
McMaster University is recognized as a world-class institution for teaching, research, and scholarship. We are ranked consistently in the top 100 in the world, and as Canada’s most research-intensive university. Our goal is to continuously improve our global standing as a research intensive institution of excellence.
McMaster believes in creating an innovative and stimulating learning environment - and the same standard is held by each part of the organization. McMaster is a research-focused student-centered institution at the forefront of discovery and innovation. We have many of the leading minds in their fields and consistently generate ground-breaking research. Together we investigate worlds from the nano scale to the cosmos, from the chemical to the social and everything in between. We are committed to taking a collaborative approach to improving people’s lives, contributing to global knowledge and advancing the health and well-being of the world around us. This is the impact you will have the chance to achieve. Your role will help fuel discoveries that are reshaping technology, industry and our understanding of the world around us. High Performing Cores - Groundbreaking Research - Impact.

You will help shape the evolution of core research infrastructure and build the story for how our diverse research ecosystem works together and propels the University forward. Help us continue to build this vision and differentiate yourself from your peers.
McMaster’s research platforms are complex, highly technical and often expensive sets of specialized equipment and services that are shared by many researchers. Core facilities support and train multiple users including students and other highly qualified personnel, encourage new avenues of revenue generation by encouraging use by external academic, government and private sector operators, and help develop research partnerships. Access to research platforms with specialized equipment and technical expertise is essential to advancing fundamental research and competing on the world’s research and innovation stage. Across our campus - from department-based laboratories to suites of equipment housed within centres and institutes to state-of-the-art national research facilities - our platforms provide researchers the cutting-edge methods and tools required to impact their fields of research and enhance Canada’s national research landscape. You will help shape the future of a key highly interdisciplinary Core Research Platform: McMaster’s Centre for Advanced Light Microscopy.

The Centre for Advanced Light Microscopy is a Core Research Platform developed in close collaboration between the Faculties of Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences. While all three participating Faculties share equal partnership in the ongoing operation and leadership of CALM, the Faculty of Science serves as the lead Faculty for the stewardship of the facility. McMaster University promotes a nurturing and inclusive environment where opportunities are made available for personal growth and professional development.

McMaster’s CALM facility supports research and training in many fields by providing researchers access to world-class light microscopy instrumentation and techniques, expertise, technical support and imaging services. CALM operates as a user facility dedicated to the advancement of knowledge using a wide assortment of light microscopy, photo-patterning, and light-assisted 3D printing techniques.
