**Summary of Duties**
Reporting to the Manager of Fleet Maintenance, the Supervisor, Fleet Technical Support is responsible for the implementation, development and oversight of the motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship program, fleet maintenance training programs, continuous improvement initiatives, vehicle OEM software, and coaching staff through complex repairs and troubleshooting. The Supervisor, Fleet Technical Support will also assist with fleet maintenance succession planning, assist with employee health and safety matters, and monitor compliance with existing legislation and corporate policies and procedures.

**Work Performed**
- Provide leadership in the execution and delivery of services and programs in the following areas of accountability:

- Facilitate and/or coordinate instruction and training for fleet technical staff to ensure skills and development are current and updated. In addition, liaise with Corporate Health and Safety to identify specialty training, logistics and scheduling.
- Supervise and oversee the motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship program.
- Coach and advise mechanics in diagnosing and troubleshooting failures.
- Manage all OEM vehicle and diagnostic equipment (hardware and software) in support of fleet operation and maintenance.
- Assist in defining and maintaining core training competencies for Fleet Services staff including regulatory licences and certifications as per the Ontario College of Trades.
- Research best practices in vehicle and equipment maintenance programs, training and efficiencies.
- Develop policies, procedures and standard work practices, guides and hazard control procedures for Fleet Services.
- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of a training database for fleet trade employees, Supervisors and Managers.
- Responsible for supervising employees including hiring, coaching, administration, training and performance aspects of reporting employees. Respond to and refer sensitive and confidential human resource issues as required.
- Encourage and support employee participation and commitment to divisional and organizational objectives. Actively mentor, provide talent development opportunities for apprentices and acting supervisors, and build team performance.
- Provide expertise and technical assistance to ensure the development, implementation and effectiveness of operating procedures, guidelines, training programs and assessment tools.
- Consult on draft specifications for new vehicles and equipment as required.
- Assist in setting, measuring, implementing, and reporting on objectives, targets, and action plans for Fleet Services. Coordinate the updates of hazard and risk assessments as required.
- Assist colleagues with the investigation and reporting of accidents and injuries. Conduct compliance inspections. Recommend corrective action and/or discipline.
- Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through interactions with stakeholders, employees and individuals and promote programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
- Educate management and employees about compliance with the Corporate Safety Policy, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Industrial and Construction Regulations, Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration and other pertinent codes, standards and legislation.
- Track performance measures for Unit deliverables using appropriate data collection and analytics and help identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities within Fleet Maintenance.
- Gather, assemble, and analyze fleet telematics data as it relates to driver compliance, accident investigation and various asset management initiatives.
- Fairly and consistently administer provisions of various collective agreements.
- Build and encourage employee commitment to a high level of performance in all areas of customer service, employee safety and delivery of individual goals and objectives.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Five to seven years related experience in an industrial automotive unionized environment including team leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- University degree or community college diploma in a relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and related professional and lived community experience.
- Possession of 310S (Automotive Technician) and 310T (Truck and Coach Technician) License.
- Certification as an adult education practitioner would be an asset.

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the above identified areas of accountability with an understanding of Fleets services.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with various truck and vehicle diagnostic troubleshooting software.
