Topman - Underground Utilities (Edmonton)

Reporting to the Foreman, the Topman supports underground utility installation by working at the top of the trench to assist the Pipelayer and crew. This role is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient material handling, spotting for equipment operators, and maintaining clear communication between the trench crew and the excavator operator. The Topman plays a key role in keeping the worksite organized, productive, and safe.

**How You’ll Add Value**
- Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
- Spot and signal the excavator operator during trenching and lifting operations
- Rig and guide pipes, vaults, and structures into the trench
- Prepare, stage, and organize materials and tools for the crew
- Cut and bevel pipes using cut-off saws, and operate small equipment such as tampers or skid steers
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the trench
- Assist with traffic control, signage, and general site labour as required
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and uneven terrain

**What You Bring**
- 3+ years of experience in underground utilities installation industry
- Physically able to safely lift and carry 40lbs regularly
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
- Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
