Resource Development Trainer

**The Position**
Reporting to **_Resource Development Manager_**, this position provides guidance and support to community front-line workers in the promotion and development of foster parent capacity. The Resource Development Trainer will develop a culturally relevant, First Nations focused, foster parent training program. They will also assist in the screening, training and in preparing potential foster parents for certification, as well as to promote community awareness of foster parenting.
**Responsibilities**:
- Demonstrates and lead behaviours and attitudes that represent the strategic priorities and overall spirit of STC Well-being Services to provide clinical guidance to frontline staff in the community that prevents the loss of children from the family unit and promotes healthy and culturally balanced perspective;
- Develops content for an improved foster parent training program that meets provincial requirements and community needs through culturally appropriate training methods, parenting practices and techniques;
- Establishes a schedule that suits the need for each community and travels to the community to communicate and build relationships with families and staff;
- Provides guidance and support to community front-line workers in foster parent treatment planning and implementation for children in their care;
- Engages with each community to assess the unique learning and training delivery needs;
- Engages with community to gather an appreciation of the community needs including cultural, emotional, behavioral and spiritual considerations;
- Acts as a coach to front-line workers to ensure their understanding of the program and capability for sustained program delivery;
- Manages project timelines to advance the program content to approval and implementation;
- Develops promotional event and awareness tools to encourage community members to enroll as foster parents and may participate in the facilitation of foster parent promotional events at community;
- May facilitate training sessions (in-person and/or virtually) and coach front-line community workers in the facilitation of program workshops;
- Monitors and ensures community trainers are provided with feedback and evaluation of training delivery to continuously improve the community training programs as needed;
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of the emotional and behavioral challenges facing children and the strategies to address and overcome these challenges;
- Collaborates on a working group to advance the improved program content to final approval that meets MSS requirements;
- Works in a collaborative manner and communicates regularly with the STC Well-Being Services Managers and community Supervisors;
- Maintains strict confidentiality at all times;
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis.
***Working Environment**:
- Given the traditional practices of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures, from time to time there can be exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur within the work setting;
- The nature of the positions may expose incumbents to high levels of tension when dealing with issues. The tension includes a level of stress that is usually moderate with high levels occurring on occasions.
**Education and Experience**:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical experience in foster parent programming including writing home studies, conducting self-assessments, etc;
- Must be a member in good standing or be eligible to register with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers;
- Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset;

**Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities**:
- Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention, child/adolescent development, and community services;
- Knowledge of a variety of issues and approaches, including but not limited to: child development, parenting stressors, effective positive parenting strategies, positive behavioral reinforcement, family dynamics, addictions and domestic violence issues, Child and Family Services systems and procedures, and how to reach high risk youth;
- Must have certification in PRIDE training and/or a thorough understanding of the content. Must be able to appreciate the views of community members to improve and re-develop an Indigenous foster parent program that is culturally appropriate and relevant;
- Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act, Adoptions Act and their regulations, standards, and guidelines;
- Demonstrates skills in developing an educational training program with clear objectives and content;
