The Y's Kids Children Exposed to Violence program offers families space to help process their experience of violence and abuse in the home. Children and youth are divided into groups while parents and caregivers meet to go over what their kids are learning and have their own discussions on the same topics in a supportive environment. Groups meet once a week in the evening to explore various themes including healthy relationships, identifying and managing emotions, stress, anger, safety planning, resiliency, family changes and self-esteem. This is done through age-appropriate discussion, creative crafts and fun activities as well as inviting in partner agencies and other guest speakers. The Y's Kids/CEV program is put on using a child-centered, trauma-informed approach. The focus is on a feeling of safety and belonging while learning a few things along the way.
Children exposed to violence facilitators; working with youth aged 4-14 who have been exposed to violence in their homes. A comprehensive program that teaches coping techniques and safe ways for youth to express emotions and begin their healing journey.
The program runs for 10 weeks three times per year plus training and wrap up sessions for the facilitators
**Responsibilities**:
- Arrive on time as scheduled to receive youth from their transportation
- Set up rooms and activities
- Lead group settings and connect with youth in a trauma-informed, person-centred way
- De-escalation and mentoring
- Clean up and post program notes
**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
- Some post secondary related to childcare, education, social work or therapeutic
- Experience working with children
**Asset**:
- De-escalation training
- Experience facilitating group settings
