Accounts Payable Specialist

Reporting to the Manager, Accounts Payable, the Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for providing accounting support and ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
**Position Responsibilities**
Perform full cycle accounts payable including day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions, resolve issues with internal teams and external suppliers and assist with regular payment cycles effectively and on a timely manner.
- Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services
- Process 2-way & 3-way matching of invoices in JD Edwards ERP systems for multiple entities
- Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
- Prepare invoice batches and code invoices to the correct general ledger costs
- Reclassify cost expense to correct coding by journal entries when error is identified
- Process EFT/ACH payments and wire transfers for multiple operations in different jurisdictions
- Maintain payment logs and all supporting documents
- Prepare ad hoc urgent payments as required
- Reconcile vendor account statements and monitor accounts to ensure payments are up-to-date and ensure any discrepancies are resolved on a timely manner
- Reconcile inventory receiving report with vendor packing slips and invoices
- Update non-conformance invoice log and follow-up on pricing and shipment discrepancies with buyers and suppliers
- Reconcile pre-payment report and follow-up on pre-payment outstanding balance
- Reconcile AP open aging reports for multiple operations
- Assist in gathering and preparing monthly accrual entries from all departments
- Assist in AP automation project
- Other ad hoc finance/AP related projects
**Health & Safety Responsibilities**
- Promote Westport’s H&S culture by leading by example in relation to Environmental, H&S policies and procedures and understand your obligations and responsibilities as it relates to applicable H&S Acts and Regulations
- Enforce Westport’s H&S policies and procedures, encourage safe work practices, correct unsafe acts or conditions, conduct formal and informal workplace inspections
- Immediately respond to, investigate and take action from reports of unsafe conditions and/or behaviors
**Position Requirements**
- 1-3 years’ experience in an Account Payable or related role
- Post-secondary education in Finance and Accounting
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Self-starter and takes initiative
- Good analytical, problem solving skills
- Able to communicate with all levels of management
- Advanced MS office skills
**Salary Range**
This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $53,000 to $57,000. Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
