**About the Winnipeg Sea Bears**
The Winnipeg Sea Bears joined the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) as an expansion franchise in 2023. As Winnipeg's only professional basketball team, the Sea Bears compete in a 24-game regular season held from May to August at the Canada Life Centre. Notably, Winnipeg will host Championship Weekend (CW) in August 2025.
The Sea Bears' roster features elite talent from the NBA, NBA G-League, top international leagues, and U SPORTS, and the team is committed to growing the sport of basketball in Manitoba. In their first two seasons, the Sea Bears achieved remarkable success, including a record-breaking 86,500 fans over 10 home games in 2024.
Proudly rooted in Winnipeg, the Sea Bears are dedicated to supporting and creating initiatives that uplift Manitobans, both within and beyond the realm of sports.
**About the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL)**
Basketball is the fastest-growing sport in Canada, and the CEBL is leading the charge. Founded by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL is recognized as one of the top FIBA professional leagues globally, featuring teams across six provinces. With plans for continued expansion, the CEBL is now the largest professional sports league in Canada.
The league runs from May to August, featuring top-tier talent from the NBA, NBA G-League, international professional leagues, and Canadian national and collegiate programs.
**Position Overview**
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Marketing**:
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Sea Bears' brand, including establishing visual identity, messaging, and voice.
- Create digital content, manage social media channels, and engage with fans to increase brand awareness and audience engagement.
- Oversee the design, production, and distribution of marketing materials, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
- Support public relations initiatives, including writing press releases, managing website content, crafting e-newsletters, and maintaining media relations.
- Conduct interviews and create compelling stories about the Sea Bears team for digital platforms.
- Fact-check, proofread, and ensure the accuracy and consistency of all marketing and communications materials.
- Serve as a primary media contact or spokesperson when needed and assist in developing media skills for staff, players, and coaches.
**Community Engagement**:
- Develop and execute a community engagement plan with clear strategic goals, objectives, and responsibilities.
- Manage and maintain the community engagement plan, including recruiting and supervising volunteers.
- Represent the Sea Bears at community and sporting events, ensuring a consistent and positive presence for the brand.
- Organize and manage concourse activations and community-based initiatives to engage fans and increase brand loyalty.
- Oversee the mascot program, ensuring the mascot is an effective tool for community engagement.
- Collaborate with the sales and sponsorship teams to align community engagement programs with commercial objectives.
**Other Duties**:
- Undertake additional duties as assigned to help further the organization’s goals and objectives.
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a similar role, preferably within a sports or entertainment environment.
- Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience in managing brand strategy, marketing campaigns, and communications efforts.
- Strong project management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Expertise in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation.
- Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, website management platforms, and strong photography/videography skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to oversee volunteer recruitment, mascot programs, and other community engagement initiatives.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend events, activations, and game nights.
**Personal Attributes**:
- Passion for community building and an understanding of the local community landscape.
- High energy, team-oriented, and dedicated to maintaining a consistent brand presence within the community.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with community members, stakeholders, and sponsors.
