Job Description Summary

Organizational Status

This position reports directly to, and collaborates with, the Director, Research Development, and works closely with the Associate Dean, Research to ensure that the Research Grant Facilitator s activities are integrated into the effective operation of the Office of Research in Education. The position communicates directly with Education and UBC faculty and staff and external research sponsor personnel. The position also communicates directly with personnel in UBC s Office of Research Services (ORS), Office of the VP Research and Innovation (VPRI), Office of the Provost & VP Academic, SPARC, University Industry Liaison Office (UILO), Research & Trust Accounting (RTA), Institutional Programs Office (IPO), and the Faculty of Education s Development and Communications personnel.

Work Performed

Research Grant Preparation & Advising
Establishes and maintains productive relationships with internal and external research sponsors on behalf of the Faculty in order to maintain current knowledge of the research award and funding landscape and to improve the Faculty s research grant success;
Provides authoritative advice to researchers and Faculty leadership on the culture, priorities, eligibility criteria, deadlines, submission processes, budget requirements and other important details regarding internal and external research funding and award opportunities;
Liaises directly with the Office of Research Services, VP Research and Innovation, SPARC, research sponsor personnel, Research and Trust Accounting, University Industry Liaison Office, Institutional Programs Office, and faculty and administrative staff on questions related to the acquisition and administration of research funding;
Advises faculty on the appropriate UBC personnel to contact for post-award grant management support (e.g. the processes involved in transferring funds from other institutions);
Advises new Education faculty of research funding and award opportunities and research support services, so as to ease the transition to the local research environment.

Strategic Planning:
Develops and enacts research professional development opportunities for faculty (e.g. workshops on grant writing, open access, partnered research, award nomination, adopting researcher digital identifiers) in consultation with the Director, Research Development;
Monitors the research grant writing and research infrastructure support needs of faculty and, based on these needs, provides recommendations to the Director, Research Development and Associate Dean, Research on the ongoing requirements and possible avenues of research support.

Education/Communication
Connects with faculty new to UBC and assists them with the transition to the local research environment;
Keeps informed of and communicates regularly about, using various channels, new research grant and award funding opportunities that are relevant for Education Faculty members;
Develops and implements grant writing supports, in consultation with the Director, Research Development, that would include a series of educational sessions on specific aspects of grant writing and where appropriate would include guest speakers (e.g. grant reviewers, successful grant awardees, sponsor representatives);
Provides individual and group consultation for faculty to strengthen grant writing skills;
Develops digital resources (e.g. budget templates, web content) to aid in the development of research proposals;
Provides Faculty and UBC Communications and Development personnel with information on current faculty research projects, recen
