Compensation Range

Job Summary
The primary work will be overall grant facilitation and writing, and research program management of the Huntsman and Nielsen laboratories for sarcoma (and potentially breast & gynaecologic cancer) research, and participation in projects that require a high degree of skill and expertise in molecular biology and genomics. This position manages TFRI funded activities in both Huntsman and Nielsen labs as well as the labs of Aparicio, Roff, Stief, Hirst, Morin, Naso, Underhill, and Sorensen. The incumbent works collaboratively with the other grant facilitator in managing the Torsten portion of the TRFI activities.
Organizational Status
Reports directly to the principal investigators, Dr. David Huntsman and Dr. Torsten Nielsen. Communicates directly with UBC faculty and staff and external research sponsor personnel. Oversees and manages workload assignments for staff and students of the laboratory.
Work Performed
Write and maintain ethics and certifications.
Work directly with the Principal Investigators in managing the laboratory groups' research programs. Responsible for grant facilitation including identifying funding sources, scientific contributions by drafting the project proposals, and budget forecasting and reconciliation.
Establish and monitor objectives and budgets as well as monitor progress against objectives and milestones/ deliverables for research projects.
Interfaces with collaborating research groups at UBC and abroad. Contributes scientifically at a strategic level to determine priorities within and across projects and at a tactical level ascertaining what roles the Nielsen team members should best play to most efficiently achieve mutual research goals.
Contributes to scientific presentations, publications, grant compliance and reporting, and inter-institutional agreements.
Monitors the literature for relevant developments in the fields under study in the Nielsen and Huntsman labs.
Assists in hiring, supervision, training and management of students and new employees.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The applicant should possess very strong oral and written communication skills in scientific English, and an understanding of the culture of the research community and research granting agencies.
Applicant should also have very strong interpersonal and organization skills and have the ability to accept responsibility and work both independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail is essential.
Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in research grant development, scientific technical writing, report writing and administration is highly desirable.
Knowledge of and/or experience in project management principles, accounting and fiscal management is preferable.
