Assistant Controller

Job Description Summary

Provide leadership and development supervision to Accounting Managers/Senior Accounting Managers and their direct reports. Support Controllers and above to assist in leading teams to provide quality results in monthly reporting and accounting functions, while promoting continuity and excellence in service to clients. Focus on department level goals, initiatives and projects.

**Job Description**:
Assist Controller in leading teams to strive for optimal performance in financial reporting, customer service and client satisfaction
Prepare and lead group meetings and presentations impacting multiple teams and/or departments
Oversee multiple markets, strategic and/or key client(s); Assist Controller in overseeing several management teams
Ensure teams follow all practices and procedures in accordance with company policies and established legal and regulatory procedures
Develop and monitor department policies and procedures; make recommendations for improvement
Coach, guide and mentor the applicable controllers supervisory organization by being a resource of expertise and leadership
Develop direct reports through goal setting, conducting mid-year and year-end performance reviews and delivering timely and meaningful performance feedback, while maintaining quality results and performance
Work with leadership team to implement department goals and objectives, lead department projects and provide essential Client Accounting committee involvement
Assist Controller with pricing new business and preparing proposal responses
Work with teams to monitor and focus on profitability at assigned market and client levels; Make improvement recommendations as needed
Develop direct reports through goal setting, conducting mid-year and year-end performance reviews and delivering timely and meaningful performance feedback, while maintaining quality results and performance
Performs other related duties as required or requested.

**Skills & Experience Required**:
University degree in Accounting
Accounting Designation (CPA) preferred
Minimum 10 years’ experience in financial reporting in a Property Accounting environment;
Minimum 5 years’ experience coaching a team of direct reports;
Strong Communication and Organizational Skills;
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows Environment;
Excellent inter-personal skills with strong focus on collaborative team-oriented environment;
Ability to prioritize time sensitive and heavy workload;
Flexibility to meet tight deadlines, requiring additional hours as necessary;
Proven ability to take initiative and adapt quickly to changing tasks;
Strong supervisory skills with the ability to motivate others;
Strong analytical skills and solid understanding of internal controls;
Experience with Yardi and MRI is an asset
