Specialist - Integrations & Middleware

This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) minimum 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

The role is involved in the planning, implementation, and operations of integration products, such as Azure integration services and IBM Integration tools. This position’s key responsibilities include incident management, root cause analysis, and problem resolution, as well as project coordination, solution design, automation, and implementation.

**Key deliverables include**:

- Preparation of change management documentation and implementation of complex system changes in accordance with WestJet ITSM policies and procedures. This role requires close collaboration with other Westjet IT support teams.
- Coordination of build activities across systems and conducting integration testing activities, or supporting these activities as required.
- Production of detailed designs and documentation using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
- Ensure platforms and solutions in Integrations and Middleware are highly available, reliable, maintained and supported. Actively seek ways to improve system robustness, resilience, and stability.
- Take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements and have the know-how to take full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.
- Ensures daily support and a high level of 24x7x365 service availability. This role requires on-call rotation and high availability (24/7) during on-call periods.
- Coordinate with teams to diagnose and resolve incidents within agreed resolution times while maintaining ownership and providing frequent status updates to stakeholders.
- Work with IT Security to ensure WestJet Data Policies are respected.
- Provide specialized technical expertise in the overall analysis of the design and architecture of systems. Review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and proper integration between multiple systems and technologies.
- Actively seek out and introduce efficiencies through automation, dashboards, and monitoring.
- Analyze and review the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems, and develop strategies for improving, or further leveraging, these systems.
- Mentor, support, and guide team members and initiatives.

**Experience and qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and 8+years of integration experience with Azure Integration services and/or IBM Integration products, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- In-depth working experience with the Azure cloud platform and various integration services offered by Azure, including:

- APIM
- Service Bus / Event grid
- App services / Function App / Logic Apps
- AKS
- Azure storage accounts
- Working experience in EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) software packages such as IBM Datapower, IBM MQ, IBM ACE (App Connect Enterprise) or IIB, and Kafka.
- Good knowledge of terraform scripting, OpenAPI specification (OAS), modeling data with JSON, as well as an understanding of PCI DSS, GDPR, and PIEPEDA standards.
- Nice to have: Programming expertise in any 2 of the following languages:

- Development of CI/CD pipelines using Terraform, Bicep templates, Ansible
- Service Oriented Architectures - SOAP, WSDL & Restful Services using RAML or Swagger.
- Perl, Shell Scripting, XSLT
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with vendors, support teams, and business groups.
- Highly organized and able to multi-task in a high pressure, fast paced and cross-functional environment.
- Experience working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, goal orientated, and relationship building skills.
- Ability to present ideas, negotiate, facilitate and problem solve.
- Demonstrate sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
- Solid understanding of ITIL processes and documentation standards.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
