Cognascents is seeking individuals for the position of
Integrity Specialist
specializing in pressure equipment and piping. We require a minimum of 5 or more years of relevant experience for this role, and while an engineering degree is preferred, individuals without an engineering degree will be considered based on their work experience.

As an Integrity Specialist, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals specializing in asset integrity. Your work will adhere to both client and industry standards and best practices. The responsibilities will encompass the development and execution of inspection projects, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

As an Integrity Specialist, your essential job functions will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform risk-based inspection assessments in accordance with API 580/581 and client-specific methodologies.
  • Review, validate, gather, and/or update integrity-critical data within the Inspection Data Management System (IDMS) to ensure accurate calculation of risk and appropriate linkage between equipment condition and inspection strategy.
  • Analyze process conditions, operating histories, and inspection data to support the identification and validation of damage mechanisms and calculation of probability of failure (POF) and consequence of failure (COF).
  • Support the development of inspection strategies, intervals, and methods to mitigate risk and optimize asset integrity programs.
  • Review and interpret inspection, corrosion monitoring, and thickness data to ensure ongoing integrity of pressure equipment.
  • Collaborate with process, corrosion, and inspection teams to maintain and improve RBI programs within the IDMS.
  • Act as the primary liaison with client, facilitating effective communication and project coordination.
  • Produce detailed reports, manage documentation, and ensure all reporting meets company and regulatory standards.
  • Collect and analyze field data essential for comprehensive integrity assessments, with backend support from the wider team.
  • Work closely with fellow team members to support various project initiatives, offering expertise where needed.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements.

  • 5 or more years of asset integrity-related experience in any combination of the upstream, midstream, refining, and chemicals industries.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Or a Technologist Diploma in Welding or Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada along with valid class 5 drivers license.
  • Successful completion of required drug and alcohol screening.
  • Experience with asset integrity data management systems and engineering software tools.
  • Demonstrated ability in risk assessment and familiarity with RBI methodologies (API 580/581).
  • Proficiency with RBI and inspection data management softwares (e.g., GE APM / Meridium, PCMS, Antea, Visions, Capstone, etc.).
  • Project management skills or certification (e.g., PMP, if applicable).
  • Physical ability to perform tasks in operating facilities, and in potentially adverse conditions.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in an engineering or operational setting.
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating detailed reports.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (API 510, 570, 653, 580, 581, ASME Section VIII, IX, and B31.3).
  • Experience with regulatory requirements of ABSA and CSA as they pertain to pressure equipment.
  • Proficiency in inspection, integrity engineering, and pressure equipment design and fabrication or related mechanical engineering topics.
  • Flexibility to travel and work at a clients' facilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Certifications with API and ABSA will be considered advantageous.

Travel Requirements:

This position will primarily support a facility north of Fort McMurray on a required 4/3 rotation; Weekly travel from Calgary (YYC) or Edmonton (YEG) and onsite accommodations are company provided.
