Position Information

**Position Title**
- Research Grant Specialist**Position Summary**- The incumbent must have the ability to analyze, interpret and make recommendations in accordance with procedures and practices of both the Polytechnic and external organizations and must be flexible and demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact at all times. This individual will collaborate with colleagues across the institution to provide clarity and coaching on the grant administration cycle.**Position Responsibilities**

**Pre-Award Grant Coordination**
- Develops procedures for every stage of the pre-award process, unique for each type of grant.
- Provides strategic input and insight to grant applicant on how to best meet funder requirements and showcase their project.
- Reviews grants for issues regarding intellectual property, confidentiality, and conflict of interest as they pertain to contracts and overlapping contracts.
- Maintains awareness of both RDP and external funding agencies’ policies and procedures surrounding grants and contractual agreements, particularly around financial controls and reporting and human resources aspects

**Post-Award Grant Coordination**
- Manages various grant reporting requirements, in consultation with Office of Research and Scholarship staff.
- Leads the development of procedures for every stage of the post-award process for every unique grant.
- Communicates the reporting requirements of the grant to the grant holder or project lead and other relevant departments, including ethics requirements, financial management, and staffing.
- Facilitates the tracking of necessary approval requirements of the grant (e.g., ethics certification) to ensure monies are not released until these requirements are met.

**Identify and Communicate Funding Opportunities**
- Identifies potential funding opportunities that match RDP’s strategic research priorities and capabilities.
- Develops content for and maintains the grants portion of the Research Common website.
- Provides group and individual training on grants; in writing, submitting, fulfilling, reporting, process, etc.
- Develops and delivers at least one workshop per term on grant writing, funding strategies or other related topics in collaboration with the Research Common Planning Group.
- Maintains office hours in the Research Common to advise faculty and staff regarding grants and research

**Additional Duties**
- Completes special projects as assigned such as procedure writing or large event planning.
- Monitors changes to external funder policies and requirements; analyzes for impact to RDP policies and procedures; collaborates with stakeholders across the institution to develop recommendations for changes to RDP policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as determined by the Office of Research and Scholarship.

**Required Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent.
- Relevant experience working with a professional office team, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, diplomacy, professionalism, and tact at all times.
- Proven project management skills preferably in an academic environment.
- Demonstrated experience with leading effective and informative workshops.
- Proficiency in proofreading, grammar skills, attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superb analytical and research skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of budget and funding processes as they relate to grant and funding requests.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Master’s degree or equivalent
- Research Administration certificate preferred
