Based in Saskatoon, SK, Nuseed Canada is looking for a Research Technician to provide support and assistance for the Greenhouse, Growth Chambers and Seed Lab. The Research Technician will be responsible for key breeding program operations such as crossing projects, seed increase projects, seed shipping and inventory functions, and other day-to-day duties as occasion requires. This role will support both the North America Canola breeding program and the Carinata breeding program.
**The Opportunity**:
Coordinate and execute greenhouse breeding projects, including seeding, growing, bag selfing (pollination) and harvest
Sample leaf tissue for molecular analysis
Clean and organize harvested seed
Perform emasculations and crosses across multiple projects
Maintain accurate and organized records
Prioritize activities to ensure timely completion of all projects
Help identify and control disease and pests
Maintain greenhouses, chambers and storage areas including cleaning and disinfecting
Clean, inventory, and order greenhouse supplies as needed
Communicate and work together with other team members
Communicate regularly with management and team leads
Provide assistance in other departments, including field and lab, as needed
Creating and updating protocols and SOPs for seed management and preparation
Communicates well and coordinates on projects with direct manager, gives frequent feedback on success or challenges of projects, maintains open dialogue and good rapport with team members
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental protocols pertaining to facility activities, such as use of proper PPE in laboratories and growth chambers
Role will require standing for prolonged periods of time and the ability to lift up to 60 lbs
Must maintain and possess a valid drivers license
