**Ecological Research Technician - Winter Bat Monitoring (Full-Time, Temporary)**

**About Us**:
The Lane Lab at University of Saskatchewan is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our research team as technicians for the winter field season. We are focussed on identifying key habitats of endangered bat species across Saskatchewan. Winter monitoring will aim to uncover potential hibernacula within the province. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to academic research and gain hands-on experience in the field of ecology.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Field Operations**:
- Use maps and spatial analysis to identify potential hibernacula locations.
- Collaborate with landowners and community partners to identify and access suitable field sites.
- Deploy and retrieve acoustic detectors at potential bat hibernaculum sites.
- Travel to various locations to conduct field work, sometimes in challenging conditions.
- Operate and troubleshoot electronic equipment used in the monitoring process.
**Data Processing**:
- Assist in the processing and analysis of acoustic data in the laboratory (using acoustic software such as Kaleidoscope or SonoBat)
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of collected data.
**Collaboration**:
- Work closely with a team of researchers and technicians to achieve project goals.
- Communicate effectively and provide regular updates on fieldwork and data processing.
**Additional tasks**:
- Time-permitting, there may be opportunities to be involved with other activites associated with the project, such as building bat boxes and insect traps for spring/summer deployments, development of public outreach/workshop materials, and field season coordination, among others, as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Courses in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Valid driver's license and a willingness to travel to different field sites.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to troubleshoot and address technical issues with equipment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Previous experience in wildlife research or acoustic monitoring is a plus.
- Ability to work well as a member of a research team.
**Duration and Compensation**:
This is a full-time, temporary position from February to April. We will also be hiring technicians for the April to August field season and there is a strong possibility of extension into these positions based on satisfactory performance and project needs.
**Terms of Employment**: Salary is $2000-$2400/month, depending on previous experience and qualifications.
