Regional Community Services Facilitator

If you are up for the challenge and would like to be considered for this position, we would like to hear from you. The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is looking to fill the following career opportunity:
**POSITION**: Regional Community Services Facilitator
**STATUS**: Permanent; Full-Time
**SHIFT**: 35 hours per week
**LOCATION**: Victoria, Nanaimo, BC (remote from the mentioned locations)
**CLASSIFICATION**: Exempt
**WAGE**: Salaried
**CLOSING DATE**: Open Until Filled
At the BC SPCA we believe that communities thrive when people and animals are supported together. We’re working towards creating compassionate, community-based solutions that improve animal well-being, and we are looking for someone who shares that vision.
If you’re someone who loves building relationships, thrives in dynamic environments, and believes in the power of community, we’d love to meet you.
A bit about the role
As a Regional Community Services Facilitator, Islands/Sunshine Coast you’ll be the bridge between the BC SPCA and the communities we serve. You’ll work closely with internal teams, local partners, volunteers and residents to deliver services that are thoughtful, inclusive and responsive to real community needs.
You’ll be connecting with people, coordinating services, solving problems and assisting both animals and their humans to get the support they need.
You’ll also play a key role in growing our volunteer network, collaborating with local governments and social service organizations, and helping us understand what’s working - and what could be better.
The Impact You’ll Have
This isn’t just a job - it’s a chance to create real, lasting change.
As a Regional Community Services Facilitator, you’ll be the reason a family can keep their beloved pet during a tough time. You’ll help ensure that someone facing housing insecurity doesn’t have to choose between shelter and their animal. You’ll empower volunteers to make a difference in their own communities. And you’ll help shape a more compassionate, inclusive approach to animal wellbeing - one that sees people and animals as part of the same story.
**Your work will ripple outward**: stronger communities, healthier animals, and a more connected, caring world.
What you’ll be doing
**Duties Related to Community Outreach/Partnerships (30%)**:
- Build relationships with key partners in the organization and community (e.g. social service agencies, veterinary clinics, housing providers, etc.); facilitate interactions that enhance trust.
- Communicates regularly with internal/external partners to ensure issues are being identified and addressed in a timely way, explore trends/opportunities, share ideas, and build relationships.
- Contributes to municipal government strategies, specifically around our understanding of the municipal landscape and priorities.
- Collaborates with social service organizations to provide support to community members and their animals, including referrals to other services as needed.
- Actively looks for new opportunities to address any gaps in community service activities and partnerships and brings forward suggestions to Senior Manager for consideration.
- Co-develops a regional community events strategy and implementation plan with the Senior Officer, Regional Communications including:
- Identifying and participating in events that enhance community engagement and outreach.
- Leading on those events that are identified as primarily supporting vulnerable animals and their guardians by promoting the human-animal bond, enabling diversion to intake and contributing to efforts that address identified root causes.
- Attending other community events regionally, as required.
- Participates in the recruitment/selection process, trains and manages volunteer ambassadors for these community events throughout the region; does so in collaboration with the Senior Officer, Regional Communications where volunteers support events in both portfolios.
- Acts as a knowledgeable representative of the BC SPCA and fosters meaningful connections with diverse community members.
**Duties Related to Volunteers (30%)**:
- Responsible for onboarding, training, scheduling, coordination, performance management, communication, and recognition of volunteers in the assigned area/portfolio.
- Ensures volunteers follow BC SPCA policies and procedures including those relating to animal health, welfare and behaviour, administration, health/safety/wellness safety, communications, etc.
- Works with the Volunteer Resources team to ensure volunteer opportunities/challenges are proactively identified and actioned; actively participates in and leads initiatives and pilot projects to expand community-based volunteer opportunities in the assigned area.
- Leads regular meetings with volunteers to share local/regional/provincial information and provide opportunities for discussion and input.
