Position Summary
Mental Health Clinician, Adult Mental Health Outpatient Program
As a Mental Health Clinician, your goal in this position is to provide a comprehensive psychiatric assessments and consultation to determine the treatment needs/goals and disposition of individuals referred to you in clinic. You will deliver patient/family driven care with an emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of health in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You are competent to manage patients with a variety of mental health conditions across the life span. You have expertise in providing individual counselling, conducting risk assessments and also will be providing short term structured counselling and support services for individuals. You’re a great relationship builder, and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills, and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
Provide individual counselling to clients using CBT treatment modalities, Motivational Interviewing, Brief Structured therapies.
Able to work independently and/or in conjunction with a psychiatrist in doing assessments/treatment plans with clients.
Conduct in-depth intake and initial assessments of clients and their systems using a wide-range of measurement tools and sources of information.
Documentation as per College and hospital standards
Assist in the development and maintenance of effective linkages with the Hospital and the mental health services, Family Physicians, etc.
Access, coordinate and advocate for services/resources to meet client needs.
Consult with other service providers to promote continuity of care for the client.
Have clinical competences to manage patients with a variety of mental health conditions
Have effective organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management and teaching skills
Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good public relations and working relationships in a family centered care environment;
Demonstrate your ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
Support and adhere to Hospital and appropriate College policies and procedures.
Provide administrative duties (i.e., record keeping, data collection, etc.).
Participate in the education of staff, students and the larger community as agreed upon with manager.
Provide supervision to students & be able to participate in research and evaluation activities.
Work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
**Qualifications**:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Degree in Psychology, Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Nursing or related discipline.
Current membership in a Regulated Professional College or equivalence.
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in mental health.
Experience with providing care using CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Brief therapies
Effective knowledge and written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Ability to set priorities, organize and coordinate activities.
Demonstrate clinical competence & working knowledge of the network of services and community-based resources for adults with mental health needs, preferred
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with hard to serve clients
