**Position Summary**:
This course introduces foundations of music psychotherapy practice through the investigation of diverse client populations with different lifespan, diagnosis, and cultural orientation. Students learn to integrate knowledge of human development across the lifespan, psychopathology, and major diagnostic categories. The focus is on therapeutic competencies and interventions required for culturally-relevant and ethical clinical practice. Current, contemporary theories practiced in Ontario will be explored and compared with music psychotherapy practices and the most typical music psychotherapy theories, approaches, and treatment models. Different needs of diverse client populations are integrated with best practises through case studies, readings, and experiential demonstration. Limitations of music psychotherapy will be discussed and the different role of the therapist in relation to other health professionals. Students also begin to recognize how oppression, power and social injustice may affect the client and also the therapeutic process. This course equips students for MU504, their first clinical placement.

**Qualifications - Required**: Master’s degree, Music Therapy, or equivalent.

**Qualifications - Professional Designation**: CRPO RP (independent practice status with evidence) and CRPO supervisor's qualifications; MTA in good standing with supervision status. CAMT approved supervisor. 30 hours supervision course (self-declared), 5 years clinical music therapy experience.

**Qualifications - Assets and Preferences**:Clinical Music Psychotherapy experience beyond minimum requirement, record of scholarship.

**Salary**: $9,206.40
