Position Summary
Reporting to the Team Lead, Recovery Oriented System of Care, the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) & Unit Clerk (UC) are vital parts of the integrated Health & Recovery Services team at the Calgary Drop-In Centre. This position will be a full-time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week) role, split between the two programs within the Recovery Oriented System of Care department, which consist of the Withdrawal Management and Recovery Transitions programs. This division of duties allows for seamless and integrated care across all programming.
The Medical Office Assistant (MOA)will operate within the Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) programs and be assigned duties such as coordinating client services, managing the physical environment of the clinic, and facilitating communications between clients, clinicians, nurses, pharmacies, and external care providers. The MOA will work closely and collaboratively with the DI’s internal healthcare providers in the Urban Response programs, as well as the Physicians from The Alex’s Outreach Clinic, pharmacy team from Mint Health + Drugs, and multiple other key stakeholders and community partners.
The Unit Clerk (UC) will be assigned tasks to support the clients’ recovery journeys, including (but not limited to) receiving referrals requesting admission into the programming, triaging those referrals based on participant eligibility, bed availability, and other factors, determining whether or accept and admit the party or decline the referral based of the triage process and collaboration with other team members of the Recovery Oriented System of Care programming, communicating with the referring agency, and coordinating the admission process and logistics.
Time Commitment
40hours per rotation; with 5days on and 2days off. Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. These hours may be altered at the discretion of management.
Job Duties
**Medical Office Assistant (MOA)**:

- Collaborate and communicate regularly, both electronically, via telephone, and in-person, with team members of the Urban Response programming as well as organizational partners from external service providers from The Alex Physician Outreach Clinic, and Mint Health + Drugs pharmacy, as well as other external service providers to ensure coordinated access to care for clients of the ROSC programs that require health service
- Possess ability to conduct, for the benefit of triage and as part of care pathway, a medical history and client interview, as well as assess and document key vital statistics
- Cleans and sterilizes beds and instruments following universal precautions and best practice guidelines after client care provision
- Support care practitioners in day-to-day clinical care of clients
- As requested by a physician or other clinical staff, obtains reports, consultations, diagnostic imaging results, health records, etc. from various care providers and institutions
- Answers the telephone, screens and relays messages to patient and staff, greets and directs patients
- Provides data entry, photocopying, faxing, and filing services
- Coordinates patient care through the clinic
- Shares information gathered from patients with appropriate team members to assist in more comprehensive care of the patient
- Schedules patients for tests and follow up appointments

**Unit Clerk (UC)**:

- Coordinate and confirm with external recovery-oriented centers internal clients' status on waitlists and/or date of intake/admission into programming
- Act as first point of contact for all external service providers referring potential program participants - receive referrals, review information provided and determine whether or not the individual meets program criteria, triage referral based on bed
