Toronto, Canada Li-Cycle Corp Full time

**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager of Technology Strategy, the Patent Agent, will be responsible for growing, protecting, and leveraging Li-Cycle’s IP (Intellectual Property) portfolio including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Working directly with Li-Cycle’s Manager of Technology Strategy to execute the company’s IP strategy
- Growing and managing Li-Cycle’s intellectual property portfolio by:

- Closely interacting with the Li-Cycle organization to extract new ideas, evaluate and prioritize those ideas
- Working with inventors to draft, file, and prosecute patent filings
- Completing regular IP portfolio reporting to Li-Cycle Executive Leadership Team
- Managing relationships with external providers (e.g., IP counsel)
- Initiating and overseeing workstreams intended to enhance/protect Li-Cycle’s IP position
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to anticipate future business, competitive and legal risks, and opportunities, and developing tailored IP solutions
- Interfacing with other members of the Technology Leadership team and broader Technology organization to describe Li-Cycle’s IP strategy and initiate projects in support of the strategy
- Developing internal IP best practices and providing IP awareness training to other teams as required
- Ensuring that expenditures are maintained within budgetary limits

**Job Qualifications**:

- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in a law firm and/or in-house setting, with experience in high tech industries such as hydrometallurgy, recycling, or batteries strongly preferred
- Registered patent agent
- Experience drafting and prosecuting patent filings required
- Strong business acumen and the ability to creatively resolve business issues
- Ability to manage outside counsel and other external resources
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Flexibility, willingness, and ability to take on diverse tasks
- Ability to facilitate and contribute to collaborative decision-making processes and work effectively on cross-functional teams
- Interest in innovation, sustainability, safety, and quality
- Strong work ethic
