The West End Resource Centre is a community renewal organization that provides a range of programs and services to the community members of Daniel McIntyre and St. Matthews. WERC’s primary areas of focus are: employment services, seniors programming, food sustainability, community beautification, greenspace renewal and preservation, community safety, and cultural development.

The role of the Grants & Strategic Partnerships Specialist is to secure the financial support for these initiatives, and to develop strategic partnerships with companies and other non-profits to drive the growth of WERC. Working across all departments, the Grants Specialist will source government and private-sector funding for current and future projects. They will assess funding criteria and ensure WERC’s programming meets the funder’s requirements. The Grant Specialist, in collaboration with program managers and the Senior Management Team will then produce, edit, and submit requests for funding proposals to potential funders.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Funding & Grant Sourcing/Application**
- Research and identify funding opportunities through online platforms, social media, in-person meetings/presentations, and networking.
- Assess and interpret the criteria of funding opportunities including federal, provincial, and private-sector funders.
- Analyse the funder’s project requirements and determine how WERC can deliver on the funder’s expectations.
- Organize and support internal and external meetings, maintain detailed notes during contact with partners, and funders.
- Preparing presentations for both internal and external audiences.
- Travel for meetings, and support community engagements in-person and virtually.
- Develop non-financial partnerships with community organizations and corporate sponsors.
- Performing additional duties as required.

**HOUSING FIX-UP GRANTS**
- Organize and facilitate public consultation meetings on neighbourhood housing priorities
- Implement the DM/SM neighbourhood housing plan
- Outreach and network with various housing stakeholders, including homeowner, tenants, landlords, other NRC housing coordinators, and others
- Liaison with appropriate departments in various levels of government e.g., Provincial (FSH, MHRC, etc.), Municipal and Federal
- Coordinate and support local housing revitalization activities
- Coordinate and provide administrative support to the DMSMCA/DMSMRI Housing Committee
- Conduct housing research
- Write funding proposals for housing initiatives
- Liaise with various levels on government to ensure implementation City by-laws, building code and housing standards in DM/SM.

**SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM**
- Coordinate and provide administrative support to the DMSMRI Small Grants Committee and Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews Community Association (DMSMCA)
- Network with various community partners (e.g., other NRCs, other community organizations, etc.)

**OUTREACH & COMMUNICATIONS**
- Act as an outreach ambassador for the WERC
- Maintain the WERC website, administer the WERC social media accounts
- Generate external communication, newsletters and media
- Create monthly internal reports and external reports to funders
- Manage the bedbugs program as part of the housing programs
- **Qualifications**:_
- Experience writing business or grant proposals.
- Undergraduate level studies or equivalent experience required. A background in finance/accounting, communications, non-profit development, sales & marketing or business is considered an asset, though applicants from other fields will be considered.
- Demonstrated networking skills.
- Knowledge of funding proposals and grant sourcing.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong English skills and a confident phone manner.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills; follows instructions well.
- Proactive leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently as well as in a team.
- Understanding of the challenges facing the DM/SM neighbourhood to help source programs that will best serve the community.
- Knowledge of community resources providing services to low-income and multi-barrier clients.
- Experience working with community non-profits, government and corporate sponsors.
- Satisfactory Criminal record and Child/Adult Registry Check.
- Daily access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
