In Alberta, St. John Ambulance supports communities through seven Training and Community Service Centres, 40 employees, and more than 500 volunteers contributing over 28,000 service hours annually.
**The Opportunity**:
St. John Ambulance Alberta is seeking a **Manager of Community Programs & Volunteer Services** to provide provincial leadership for community-based programs, volunteer services, and emergency response coordination. This role is ideal for a strategic, people-focused leader who thrives in mission-driven environments and enjoys balancing operational excellence with community impact.
**What You’ll Do**:
- Provide provincial leadership and direct supervision to Community Programs & Volunteer Services Coordinators across Alberta
- Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of volunteer services and community programs
- Lead provincial volunteer emergency response efforts during declared emergencies
- Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans and measurable outcomes
- Oversee department budgets, resource allocation, and quality assurance
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government, NGOs, event organizers, and national partners
- Champion volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention strategies
- Serve as Alberta’s representative on national committees and working groups
- Act as a visible ambassador for St. John Ambulance in communities across the province
**What You Bring**:
- Post-secondary education in Volunteer Management, Human Resources, Social Sciences, or a related field
- Leadership experience in not-for-profit, volunteer-driven, or public service organizations
- Strong people leadership, communication, and change management skills
- Experience working with volunteers and employee teams in complex service environments
- Emergency management and/or public relations experience (considered an asset)
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, programs, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel within Alberta (and occasionally nationally)
- Clean Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
