**NOTE: This is an unpaid volunteer position.** **Are you ready to make a difference in your community? Give back to the next generation through mentorship and coaching at our local running & reading clubs. You will help facilitate club sessions for students in grades 1 - 6 at partner elementary schools.** Start2Finish is a national non-profit running free after school programs for students in grades 1-6 that focus on physical activity, literacy development and social emotional learning. We work in over 70 communities experiencing poverty across Canada. **What to Expect** - PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Volunteers supervise and encourage the children through the physical activity component of the program. They lead warm-up, running workouts, and other fitness activities while cheering them on and providing encouragement. - SNACK TIME: Volunteers help to distribute snacks to the students after the physical activity component. - WORD OF THE DAY: Each volunteer has the opportunity to explain a "Word of the Day” for the whole group.They will share the word selected for that week (as provided in the Director’s Manual) and engage feedback from the students regarding the definition and how they have exemplified it at some point in their lives. - JOURNAL TIME: Volunteers help children to record their accomplishments in both running and reading each week. - READING CORNER: Volunteers supervise as children read silently, read one-on-one with children or lead group reading, listen to them read and provide help and encouragement. - CREATING POSITIVE SPACES: All volunteers are required to proactively work together along with the Club **Time Commitment**: 1x per week for 2 hours after school (you can choose the day that works best for you) - Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday **Qualifications**: - Enjoy working with children - Enthusiastic - Valid vulnerable sector check (or willing to obtain one) - Strong leadership skills **Job Type**: Casual Work Location: In person
