Education & Outreach Coordinator

The Educator & Outreach Coordinator’s main purpose is to develop, plan and deliver history-based programs and educational activities for the Souris Valley Museum. Souris Valley Museum offers programs from ages 2 years old to Adult/Senior. This position also supports the planning of special events that occur at the museum throughout the year.
The wage is $18/hour.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1)Develop, Plan, Coordinate, and Deliver museum educational programs. Conducting tours, hands-on activities, and day camps/events to a diverse audience of all ages. Includes some research of appropriate activities related to museum history, gathering materials, planning appropriate activities, and delivering the programs.
2) Preparing research materials for both virtual and in-person tours and events.
3) Preparing programs and workshops for outreach events at a partnering location outside of the museum.
4) Develop Advertising & Social Media postings for Programming and Events.
5) Represent the Museum at Key events and functions. This may include speaking to the media/public about the museum and its programs.
6) General cleaning and maintenance of the artifacts, museum, and its grounds.
8) Receive payments from customers/patrons.
9) Maintain stat reports on program attendance, report monthly program activities to board in a written report.
10) Intro to grant writing for museum programs & events.
11) Other duties as assigned by the director.
Qualifications and Skills:
1)Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
2) 1-2 years experience in field of education/programming/working with children-youth
3) Good written & verbal communication skills
4) Comfortable working with public of all ages and backgrounds
5) Prior experience working with large groups and running craft activities and games
6) Ability to perform physical tasks
7) Able to work independently, self-starter, organized
8) Working knowledge of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Office, Canva, plus Facebook, Instagram
9) Must have a drivers’ license
The Souris Valley Museum is a Non-Profit regional history Museum that focuses on the human development and daily life in Southeast Saskatchewan with a focus on the early homestead settlement life in the Prairies. The Museum opened its doors to the public in September 2001 and since then has been serving the community through our exhibitions, programs, outreach, and events.
The Souris Valley Museum is open all year, Monday to Friday (September to Mid-May) and Monday to Saturday (Mid-May to August), 9 AM TO 5 PM.
